This was a quick and enjoyable romantic suspense with quite a few twists and turns. Some were predictable but many were not and that’s what made it so engrossing. Jake and Livi had reincarnated chemistry from the minute they unexpectedly meet in the small town where they both grew up and where Livi still lived and worked. There was enough background given that I felt I knew them and their history early on and could understand why they both acted as they did. The characters were all well developed but the main characters and those involved in Hampton Steel all had many layers to them. There were friends, family, coworkers, management, romance, love, caring, anxiety, tension, angst, laughter and tears along with an overwhelming workload for Livi to get out from under so she could enjoy life and what was right in front of her.

The descriptions of the guesthouse that Jake was fixing up for his family as well as the water surrounding it and the sunsets were so vivid I felt I was there. The other side of Millersville had the McMansions that were well described as well and showed the two sides of the town – the working class vs management. Since much of the novel took place at Hampton Steel it was nice that the business side of things were described in layman’s terms for everyone to understand.

This was a debut novel for White and I hope she continues to write stories like this. There was a presumed happily ever after but a few chapters more or an epilogue would have been nice for better closure. I look forward to reading other books she writes.

White definitely has a way of drawing you into the story. Identifiable characters that you can easily relate to. White is a smart writer that keeps the story fun and more suspenseful than expected. Livi Miller is a real and loveable character, I was cheering for the couple from the beginning. Can't wait for White's next one!

I have never before been so engrossed in a book that I completed it in one day! The author has done a good job incorporating a likeable family and a romantic duo with a suspense story. Once you are hooked, you don't want to put it down!

Natural, believable characters in a small-town setting provide the backdrop for romance and suspense. Easy to read, easy to remember the characters, and easy to visualize the work environment! The writer incorporated love, conflict, good values, and mystery in a great plot. There's even a little unexpected twist near the end. Hard to put down once you get into the story.

Livi MiIler may be a small town girl but that hasn't stopped her

Livi MiIler may be a small town girl but that hasn't stopped her from going for the career she always wanted. Livi has worked hard to get to the position of Asst. General Counsel for Hampton Steel, and now may even be on the fast track for a promotion. But when Livi runs into Jake Cooper, the love of her pre-college life and the reason she carried a broken heart through college, all bets are off. But having a career and the love of your life don't always mesh well together. And something else is going on behind closed doors at Hampton Steel...something that puts Livi in danger.

This was a very good read and I enjoyed the characters too. I wanted to strangle Jake a few times but in the end he showed Livi he could be a man and be there for Livi and her desire for a career.

    Like coming home...

For me, this book was like coming home. It was the perfect blend of romance and the type of solid faith that keeps a family bound together through hard times. I fell in love with all of the characters, but especially loved the heroine, Livi, who stuck to her guns when she knew what she was doing was right, even though it cost her the love of her life. And I was so glad to see Jake come around and turn into the man she deserved.
