Overview

Ireland has many secrets... this is one of them.

For sixteen years, my life has been normal. Piedsville, Oklahoma isn't the tourist mecca of the world, but it's where I live. It's my junior year and I've known everyone since Kindergarten, everyone except her, Pru Phelan. She walked into my English class, my heart stopped. I'd never heard the name Phelan before, so I Googled it and found Phelan means wolf. What I didn't know, she was a werewolf and soon my destiny would change.

This is the story about the prophecy of the Great Wolf and how it relates to me. I'm Abel Casey, and I am the Great Wolf.

The Legacy of Kilkenny is a young adult story about werewolves, friendship, family, and fear.

Editorial Reviews

Jeanz Book Reviews - Jeanz Keyes
This book I feel had its own story yet it has also set the scene and introduced us to the characters of what could be a very promising series. At first I though the book was going to go somewhere along the line of being like Twilight however that didn't last long, I would compare this more to the Rachel Vincent Shifter series. This is more aimed at the YA market however is still very readable and enjoyable by adults in my opinion. I enjoyed how the story is told from Pru or Abel's points of view
Goodreads - Gothic Angel
I think you will agree with me that the cover art for this book is something that makes you stop, look, read the blurb, and then buy it. That's exactly what I did.
The Legacy of Kilkenny goes straight on my Favourite Books pile.
And Devyn Dawson, goes straight up there with my favourite authors.

This book had me laughing, wanting to punch someone in the face, laughing some more, and crying - at least twice!
Goodreads - Jody Reviews
This was such joy to read. The story flows and draws you into a complete world created by the author. These characters will have you thinking about them even after you put the book down(if you can put it down). It is really hard to summarize Legacy into a review because I don't feel I can really do it justice. There is just so many plots and subplots and I don't want to ruin the natural unfolding of the story for anyone. The Legacy of Kilkenney to anyone who enjoys the paranormal!
Amazon - Sanz Bookreviews
The cameraderie the pack has is well described and the whole love elements in the book of will Pru and Abel become an item? Will Pru and Oakley get together? etc keeps you guessing well into the book. I will definitely be looking out for book 2 which I think maybe even better as in a way book 1 ended at the begining of
journey on his new life path.

Meet the Author

I'll tell you a little about myself (yawn). I'm Devyn and I write paranormal YA books about the characters who live in my head. I love reading paranormal books and love hearing about new authors. I prefer young adult books, but will read grown-up books on occasion. I was always considered the ‘eccentric girl’ the one with the big imagination and colorful stories. I'm from Oklahoma City, a place I'll always call home. Right now, I live in the lush green and humid climate of New Bern, North Carolina. I was Goth before Goth was a style, I wanted to be Star from The Lost Boys and knew Keifer would one day find me and we'd fall madly in love.

    Compelling

I fell in love with the characters from the beginning. I like that it is told in two POV - Abel he sounds just like my brother. He would do anything for me and I feel Abel would do the same for his sister. I love how his powers come on slowly, I think he is totally hot. I can't wait to read the next book! Pru, she is so cool. I love her being so tough and smart. Her bodyguard Oakley is so yummy, he can guard me any day. I think this story is interesting because the build up of the friends and how a pack of werewolves work together. Each member has a special ability and it makes the story hard to put down. I have already lended my book to several friends and they LOVE it. I tell everyone about this book. All of those people that love vampires, well there is one in this story that is very cool. I'd like to have his car. I love that Abel is trying to protect his sister from this vampire (his name is Arien). The vampire has the ability to get inside Pru's dreams and when he does, oo la la! If you love werewolves, vampires and the whole supernatural world, you will really love this book. I hope one day they make this a movie!

    Get ready to be hooked!

I was hooked from the start with this captivating book. Abel thinks that he is just a normal teen growing up in Oklahoma, until he meets Pru. Pru gives Abel news that will totally end his life... or will it? The book is written in both Abel and Pru's point of view and is a real page turner. You don't want to miss out on this book and you'll be on the edge of your seat waiting for the next book in the series!

I really enjoyed this book!  I enjoyed the spin the author put on the werewolf world.  The action, adventure, mystery, and the wonderful characters made for an awesome read.  I had to buy the rest of the series because I just have to know what's going to happen next.  If you haven't read it already, definitely add this story to your TBR list!

    Awesome!

Awesome! So good, and so original. I have to say I was hugely impressed by this book! I loved the concept and idea behind it and I was pleasantly surprised by the relationships in this book. I loved the dynamics between Pru and Oakley, they were so adorable. I was constantly wondering what Abel was going to do next, he handled the news of his being the big dog so to speak with much grace and responsibility. The ending was painful but a great cliff hanger!

    A Good Read

Abel Casey is just an ordinary boy. He goes to school and comes home to take care of his mother and sister while his father is at work. There¿s nothing out of the norm that would signal him to be more than what he already is. Yet when Prudence Phelan shows up on the scene, his entire world is thrown into limbo. Legend has it that a Great Wolf will some day be born to rule over all the wolf clans. A leader with extraordinary abilities. Abel has a hard time accepting such claims, even when presented with proof that he¿s the one Pru¿s clan has been waiting for. When Pru tells Abel that he must die in order to protect his family, he balks at the idea. He has no wish to cause his family any further heartache. When his sister starts exhibiting some weird behaviors, Abel realizes that he¿s way in over his head. Werewolves do exist, as do vampires. And apparently one has become fixated upon his sister in hopes of garnering the needed information that would lead him to destroy the Great Wolf. As his attraction for the lovely Pru grows with every day of training, he comes to realize that she¿s way out of his league. She¿s set her sights on Oakley and there¿s nothing that he can do to change her mind. Fighting against his feelings for her, he throws himself into his training while trying to figure out a way to save his sister and thus fulfilling the demands that have been thrown upon his shoulders ¿ demands that could very well be his undoing should he take one wrong step. While this book has a very good premise and is quite promising, the one thing that kept me from truly enjoying its potential was the book¿s punctuation. Mind you, this isn¿t a bad review ¿ far from it. I just think that if the editor had taken time to fully immerse him/herself in fixing the punctuation/sentence structures throughout the book, it would have made the book¿s message more clear and concise. TLOK Cover Devyn has written a story that truly has potential. I do wish that she¿d expanded just a little further on story of the Legacy of Kilkenny. To provide an even further and very much in-depth back story of how the clan truly came to be. I honestly liked what I read and I wish the author very well in her future endeavors.

    Review for Rachel's Book Reviews

    The Legacy of Kilkenny
    By Devyn Dawson

Abel Casey was your average highschooler when he met Pru Phelan. She changed his life forever. Pru is a psychic in her wolf pack, she''d been having dreams about Abel. He was to be The Great Wolf, one to lead all the packs. In order to do that though, she''ll have to kill him. Well, sort of. She has to make his family believe he''s dead. Abel doesn''t want to leave his family, destined for greatness doesn''t mean anything to him unless he''s got his family. Just when he thought he''d had enough on his plate, another dish was heaped on. Turns out his sister Allie is being turned into a vampire by her boyfriend. Fantastic.

Okay, this was a semi-interesting story. I feel like it had a good backbone, but it got a little lost in all the cliché's of the whole vamp phenomenon going on. I just felt like the originality was lost. Vampires and Werewolves really aren''t my thing, so I can''t judge for certain. Who knows? Maybe if you are a fanatic of these kinds of stories, you''ll love it. I really couldn''t tell. I won''t say for one way or the other. It did have cussing, and explicit suggestions. Other than that, it was just a vamp/werewolf story. Just not my flavor, you could say.

    Fantastic Urban-Fantasy! A Must Read!

The Legacy of Kilkenny is a fantastic read. Devyn Dawson has created one amazing urban- fantasy world. The storyline is strong and fresh, with different werewolf packs, vampires, dream walkers, and seers-and that's just the tip of this awesome adventure. The characters are well-developed and full of personality. This is the first book I've read where the main boy and girl characters were not in love with each other, but it works. Dawson did beautifully with Pru already being in love with Oakley. I didn't dislike Pru for not returning Abel's feelings, and you will see why (no spoilers).

Abel is a terrific guy. He's funny, sincerer, and so loveable. When Abel sees Pru, he knows trouble just walked into his English class. He's so right, Pru is on a mission to get Abel trained and ready for his destiny. Abel is to become The Great Wolf, and rule over all the werewolf packs. Not bad for a teenage boy who still has his mom take him to school lol. Pru is a beautiful werewolf princess. Her father is the alpha male, so Pru will become an alpha female. It's her mission to tell Abel he's the The Great Wolf that all the werewolves have been waiting for him to join the packs.

Oakley is a gorgeous guy and werewolf. He's part of Pru's fathers pack, and also Pru's bodyguard. He helps Pru train Abel for his destiny. Pru and Oakley's romance is hot. Oakley is hot! :) He's one lean, mean, sexy werewolf, and I can't wait to see more of him in the next book. But I also want to see more of Parker. He's a rogue werewolf that's joined up with Pru's pack and he's the cool mysterious type. I'm definitely wanting to know what this gorgeous werewolf is all about. The hard part is I'm going to have to wait for the next book, but in Parker's case, it's well worth the wait. He's yummy ;) Now for Arien. He' the sexy bad boy vampire. I know I'm not supposed to love him, but I do, and Pru's having a hard time with this herself. Arien's so sexy and bad till he's mm mm-good. But he is the enemy. Dawson has built a magnificent urban-fantasy world and amazing characters in The Legacy Series. I highly recommend The Legacy of Kilkenny as a must read.
