Uzi Narkiss who was the military commander of the Israeli forces which captured the Old City of Jerusalem in 1967 here tells the story of that battle. He tells it with a soldier's brevity and clearness .And yet when he comes to the great moment of the taking of the Old City, the return to the Western Wall and the Temple Mount he writes movingly and with great power. This is a highly credible narrative by a soldier who took an important part in this turning- point battle .Any student of the modern history of Israel, of Jerusalem,or in fact of the Arab - Israeli conflict would do well to read this work.
