Editorial Reviews

Senator Ted Cruz

"I applaud Mark Levin for his book and for being unafraid to propose these thoughtful constitutional amendments. Mark’s book sparks an important discussion about how to fix the problems that face our Republic."
Kirkus Reviews
2013-11-03
Ronald Reagan stalwart and conservative radio host Levin (Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America, 2012, etc.) punts one for the Gipper in the showdown with the dreaded statists and their "century-long march to disfigure and mangle the constitutional order." Forget for a minute that Reagan expanded the federal government plenty even while talking about the evils of big government. Forget for a minute that a little more than century ago, it was the Republicans who pushed the 17th Amendment, which Levin attributes to "a Progressive populism promoting simultaneously radical egalitarianism and centralized authoritarianism." For those needing to brush up their constitutional law, the 17th Amendment is the one that lets you vote for your U.S. senator rather than having your legislature appoint one, which Levin proposes restoring. Indeed, much of this book, a set of prescriptions and proscriptions to restore "the republic," is really a reformulation of the old anti-federalist argument against the likes of John Jay and Alexander Hamilton, who, one presumes, would bristle about Levin's idea that taxing an estate is somehow evil. The author has a few more notions that the liberal elite may find variously quaint or alarming, including the thought that the states should somehow have the authority to "check Congress." The preference for states' rights over federal ones is nowhere more apparent than here, though if Levin were to look closely at the doings of the legislatures of, say, Texas or Arizona, he might be glad to see that the system of checks and balances is in place at least somewhere--not in Phoenix or Austin, but in Washington, D.C. Levin at least doesn't calumniate too pointedly against a single party, though the fact that his villain is Barack Obama and the hero is Saint Ronnie is a giveaway. For like-minded readers only.
David Limbaugh
"[Mark Levin] has done an incredible job of drafting these proposed amendments aimed at re-establishing the balance between the federal and state governments...let our national conversation begin, and let us thank Mark Levin for initiating it."
Jeffrey Lord
"Mark Levin’s The Liberty Amendments is the revolutionary blueprint millions of Americans have been waiting for...carefully and powerfully written."
Cal Thomas
“Mark Levin's book is a serious work that can serve as an action plan for curing what ails us.”

Mark is telling it like it is, not how lying, cheating politicians would have us believe. We The People need to start by voting out career politicians or face a Dictatorship which is not far off. We need to start now and then implement recommendations made by Mark to protect our children's futures.

The Constitution's broken. We're not living under it anymore.

The Constitution's broken. We're not living under it anymore. It has to be put back together and reaffirmed. It's being ignored by this president who just chooses which law and what part of a law he wants to obey or not. Levin proposes 10 amendments that simply reaffirm the original intent of the Constitution and then gives a thorough explanation for why each amendment is in fact justified and warranted and traces it back to the days of the founding. Presidents don't have the right to pick and choose what parts of legislation they like and implement that and deny other parts. The American people have the power to change this. One of the points in the book is that the states, the amendment process is right there in Article V, how to deal with out-of-control administrations, how to deal with leaders that are abrogating and denying the Constitution, shredding it. It's right there. The Founders are brilliant. They knew what they were doing. They weren't just devising a formula for life during their era. They were devising a structure for all time, and, as such, they were able, because they understood human nature, they were able to understand exactly how despotism happens, dictatorship happens, usurpation of freedom by governments, how it happens. That's why the country came into existence. And there is a recipe, there's a formula, there's a prescription in the Constitution for addressing the problems we have today and fixing them. And it involves the states. In our Constitution, the states, particularly banded together, have far more power than the federal government, and the people, and it's going to have to happen. And it's going to be slow in coming. This is going to be resisted by the current ruling class. They're not going to want any part of this. So it's going to have to effervesce from the grassroots up. And Levin's book is a series of ideas of how to do it that involves the American people. Some people are afraid that once you start amending the Constitution, that you're opening the door to the left. This is dealt with in the book as well. This book should be read by everyone who is concerned about the direction of this country and definitely be a standard reading requirement in our schools. The problem is our school are run by liberals, and they’ve probably banned the book in school libraries, which edifies the importance of reading this book.

I am not a huge fan of Mr Levin's normal histrionics, but this book seems well intentioned and can serve as a good starting point for discussions. He states many amendments that many conservatives would like to see to bring the federal government into check. My main problem is that this type of amendment process has never been done and all sorts of interest groups could hijack the process.

    More drivel from the Not-Left

This man has built a well paying carreer on playing on Right-wing paranoia. He would not know real tyrrany if he saw it. A real tyrant would jail and shoot his opposition. The real tyranny will come from those wrapped in the flag and spouting lines like "Restore Our Freedom."

This is another great book from The Great One, Mark Levin. This book is an interesting follow-up to Liberty and Tyranny & Americatopia. This first two book explained the problem, this one attempts to start the process of returning the United States to a true constitutional republic with a limited federal government.

Mark Levin writing is ., as usual, informative and concise. He gets this essential conversation started but, like all current pundits, he is wrapped up in the current mindset of Political Parties and misses the Mark (no pun intended).
He is also not the first to propose the State Amendment Convention and explain that it is not a Constitutional Convention.
The Society Project org has been writing about this for the last five years. You may not have heard of them because they do not have the National Audience of a talk show host. However, they have crafted an educational aid and agenda for the Amendment Convention with at least 24 essential amendments that are not addressed by "The Liberty Amendments". Read this book, but check it against TheSocietyProject.
