Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The photographs in the book show the Liberty Bell with its big crack, and readers learn that once it cracked it could no longer be rung. The history of the bell is not provided except for a cartoon drawing which shows it being rung. They Liberty Bell is currently located in Philadelphia which was a major city in the nascent years of America—it served as the second Capitol city for the new nation. The pictures are attractive, but the limited text is unlikely to inspire any young reader to request a trip to see this American symbol. The title is part of a series entitled "American symbol." On the first page there is a feature called words to know (pictures and text) and a table of contents. The closing page includes references to other reading material, websites, plus an index. This book is leveled as guided reading B with the word count of 116. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
