Children's Literature
Wolves are beautiful, majestic creatures, but somewhat misunderstood. Humans are more likely to set traps and to hunt wolves than to attempt to understand them, but Kalman and Bishop introduce young readers to the lives of wolves in this fully illustrated and informative book. The authors begin by giving brief definitions and scientific classification of the "timber wolf" or "gray wolf." Wolves live in packs, and the authors address the issue of mating, hunting, and communicating within packs. Kalman and Bishop also catalog abuses to wolves through their historic interaction with humans, and give Websites where more information can be obtained regarding wolves. Words appearing in bold throughout the text are either defined within the text itself, or in the glossary provided. Fully illustrated with color photos and color drawings, the text also includes an index. Part of the "Life Cycle Series." 2002, Crabtree Publishing Company,
