The Life of Tiberius
THE LIFE OF TIBERUS is one of the most important ancient sources of history for the late Roman Republic and early Imperial period, as well as the life of Roman Emperor Tiberius. Tiberius Julius Caesar Augustus (47 BC - 37 AD) was the second emperor of Rome, having succeeded Augustus after his death in 14 AD. A noted general, Tiberius conquered Pannonia, Dalmatia, and Raetia before becoming emperor, a role he did not relish. For much of his reign Tiberius stayed on the isle of Capreae and allowed his Pretorian Prefects to rule in his stead. He was succeeded by Caligula in 37 AD.
