The Lion King [Original Broadway Cast]

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - William Pearl
With The Lion King, the fantastically successful Elton John became even more fantastically successful. His tuneful score, co-written with lyricist Tim Rice and adapted for the Broadway stage from the hit Disney animated film, spawned a handful of modern standards, including "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "The Circle of Life." With the wonderful Heather Headley leading the ensemble, the cast album takes off in a rousing flurry of sweeping anthems and affecting ballads. This is music that both little ones and their parents can listen to with pure pleasure.

The stage production of Disney's hit film The Lion King isn't drastically different, musically, from the film, adding only a couple of new, unremarkable songs. For dedicated fans of The Lion King, this recording is worthwhile -- the performances are strong, confirming the strength of several of Elton John's songs -- but most listeners will be content with the original motion picture soundtrack.

the Lion King from broadway to soundtrack

I saw the actual broadway show and the music was absolutely amazing. The music on the soundtrack reminds me of when I saw the actual show with great music and lyrics.

    Best musical investment in years!

I would seriously recommend this cd. I saw the show recently, and I was amazed. If you can't get to a showing of the musical, this cd is the next best thing.

    I LOVE this CD!

This is such a beautful CD, the music is both funny, and moving. Some songs are shockers for Disney (The madness of King Scar realy seemed like some thing DISNEY wouldn't have done). This is my favoret CD I ever got, I have 6 Lion King CDs, and this one is my favoret.

One of the greatest CD.. ever!

Needless to say.. it's the best investment i've ever made on a CD. Even if you're not a Disney fan, you'll treasure this CD so much. It has all the great songs from the cartoon, voiced beautifully by the talented cast, plus tons of additional great numbers. It captures almost every moment of the awesome play, the orchestration is GREAT, and Tsidi (Rafiki's) voice will blow you away! I still get chills everytime I listen to this CD.

    Amazing, simply beautiful!

I was first skeptic about this cd. But, my friend went to see it in Toranto. She said it was amazing, and had many other good songs. So, I bought the cd and I listened to it. I can say right now, if they made 'The Lion King' longer. The songs on this cd, would have be AMAZING to hear. The cast, including 'Heather Headley' make it so amazing. She is an amazing singer, when playing Nala, and hearing her as AIDA, I can say, she was destined for this role. You might be skeptic when you hear it, but you will love it!

    Incredible!

I got this CD a few weeks ago, and I can't stop listening to it! It's phenomenal! It can be very soothing or very stirring, depending on which track you listen to. My favorite tracks, by far, are Shadowlands and The Endless Night, they're GREAT!! I highly recomend buying this CD, even if you didn't like the movie music all that much.

    This CD is wonderful

I thought that the London performance was the most talented show I've ever seen. This CD almost captures how wonderful the show was live.

    Great Music

The music on this album is inspirational and moving. The best music I have heard from a movie soundtrack in a long time. The sound of the singers give you goosebumps. This is a soundtrack to treasure forever!

    The ABSOLUTE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen the Broadway show twice and was at the Tony's in '98 when the show won for 'Best Musical'. I have never been so moved by those beautiful African voices in my life. The CD is my 'riding' music for my hour-long commute to work. Listen to the music and you'll definitely be uplifted!!!

Almost as good as the live production!

We saw the Broadway play this summer and enjoyed it tremendously! This cd is great and lets us remember the wonderful play and the time we spent in NY.
