This is an amazing book! My teacher read it to my class, and I never forgot it. Though it was originally published more than 40 years ago, it's a classic that children today will still enjoy.

Very highly recommended----you will love it.

When I was in the 4th grade we had a substitute teacher that read this book to our class. We all ran to the library to check it out, but they only had 2 copies and we had to get on a waiting list. My favorite book when I was a child....I still love this book. I was able to purchase it about 15 years ago and I will not allow anyone to borrow it....

You have to read this adventure story

When I was in 4th grade, my teacher read this book to the class for reading time. We read several books that year, but this one was my favoiite. Great read for children 9-12 years old, and interesting for adults as well.

    Favorite Book

This is my all-time favorite book that I read as a kid. I'm 60 now and can still remember how I felt when it ended. I wished it had been another 500 pages long. I'm ordering it now and having it sent to my grandaughter.

    Great read aloud book!!!

My teacher read this to our class in grade school, and i have read it to each of my 5 children, and now my first grandson. It is a delightful story, and fun to read aloud for both children and adults! I'm so glad to find it back in print again, it's been hard to borrow from the library! This version has remained true to the original, too!

    Totally AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

This is book was reviewed in a St Petersburg Times article on Florida authors. It is basically a Tom Sawyer type book that is set in Florida. My son who does NOT like to read LOVED it. It is book that all boys will love and us girls too. <BR/> A must read for classrooms as well as at home

Being sure of what you hope for...

I read this book as a girl, and it brought me an expectation beyond what I could see. These youngsters endure physical hardships, and disappointments beyond the ordinary, but they continue to hope. This book takes my breath away each time I read it, and I was so thrilled that my daughter's school still had it available. This book has much to teach about perseverance, and character, and hope. It does not disappoint.

25 Years Later and I Still Remember

In third grade my teacher received the book from a book order. She agreed to let me buy it (I thought it looked interesting). I payed my teacher my milk money (4 cents a day)untill I covered the price. I fell asleep reading the book every night. I was Penny. I wanted so bad to run away on a boat. I kept the book for years. Unfortuanatly the book fell apart from use. I am glad to hear it is still out there and being read. I would recommend a new printing of the book so todays youth may enjoy the exciting and dangerous adventure. I have never forgotten the book and reading it for the first time - even after 25 years.
