Meet the Author

LENA TABORI is publisher of Welcome Books. She has conceived and edited numerous titles in her career, including Love: A Celebration in Art and Literature (STC) and many of the Little Big Book series, including The Little Big Book for Grandmothers. Her two daughters are partners at Welcome Books.

ALICE WONG is project director at Welcome Books. She has conceived, produced, and edited numerous titles, including many from the Little Big Book series (among the Boys and Girls). She has three little ones.

P. 105 Play Dough Farm Play dough is a childhood must, so have plenty of it on hand. Young children will appreciate the edible peanutty version while older kids will enjoy play dough for keeps to dry and paint. The small animals are fun suggestions to start with but the wonder of play dough is that the possibilities are endless.

PLAY DOUGH TO EAT 2 cups powdered milk, 2 cups smooth peanut butter, 1 cup honey, bowl, spoon 1. Combine ingredients in bowl and stir until well blended. 2. Shape, admire, and eat!

PLAY DOUGH FOR KEEPS 2 cups four, 1 cup salt, 3/4 cup water, 2 tablespoons cooking oil, Optional: food coloring, poster paints. 1. Mix flour and salt in large bowl. 2. Add oil (and food coloring) to water. Pour water slowly into flour mixture, kneading until it becomes soft and doughy. 3. Shape. Projects can be air-dried or dried in a 250 F oven for 1 1/2 to 2 hours and then painted. PLAY DOUGH ANIMALS Start with golf-ball sized play dough balls and add pieces suggested below to complete your animals.

PIG: Add two triangle ears and two small beads for eyes. Flatten a small marble-sized ball into a nose. With a toothpick, press two indents into nose for the nostrils. Finish with a curly tail. MOUSE: Add two flattened balls for ears and two small beads for eyes. Add a ball for nose and a long thin tail. Cut off pointed ends of toothpicks and insert for whiskers. ROOSTER: Add two small beads for eyes and two small triangles for beak. Add three smaller triangles on top for comb.

    Great Gift

    I received this book for Mother's Day from my 5 month old. It has so many different things to do in it. Unfortunately, the only things to do right now are the nursery rhymes and some stories (not a picture book). But it will be great when she gets older for the recipes and crafts that we can do together. I actually bought the book for dads for my husband for Father's Day.

    My sister and her daughter love this!

    I gave this book to my sister and she loves it. My niece loves looking at all the pictures and reading the stories and poems. A 'must' gift for expectant mothers! You will become familiar with songs and stories that you may have forgotton and fall in love with them all over again!

    Wonderful Book for Everyone In The Family

    This book has all the stories and nursery rhymes you knew as a kid and all the ones you wish to pass along to your own kids. The illustrations are all so colorful and nice to look at and the book is arranged in a easy to read fashion. Everyone will love this book. Every mom and dad should have this book to read and pass down to their children. :)

    My Mom Needed This Book!

    If my mother had this book when I was a child, I would have had a much richer background. I love the fact that this book has everything I could ever think of reading to my little one.     For ANY mother, new or experienced!

    This book is a valuable keepsake for every family. It is so charmingly illustrated with the kind of beloved pictures we boomers and older parents will remember from our pre-tv childhood.The book is stuffed with games, poems, stories, comfort food recipes and alot more. My husband said The Little Big Book for Moms should be bundled with Dr. Spock so new families have a guide to the physical care AND the spirit of their children- there's alot of love and fun in it and it is a great baby shower gift, and for any Mommy and Grandparents to have, too.

    calling all little kids everywhere!

    This little book is the sum of all the parts. It has our favorite fairy tales, our favorite authors (Milne, E.B. White, Brothers Grimm, Maya Angeleou, Ogden Nash, e.e. cummings, shel Silverstein and dozens more, many of our favorite poems and stories; it has dozens of games (the best finger games) and pretty adorable recipes for me to make with my son as well as for him -- so far I have tried the applesauce pancakes and the alphabet chicken soup. Together my son, Maxwell and I -- he is 4, made the chocolate cupcakes today His friends are coming to his birthday party tomorrow and I suspect we will spend at least two hours decorating them. Yum. I got an advance copy of this book to review and, instead, I have been reading it to Max. Last night (we have had it for five days) I asked him -as we snuggled down to bed- what he wanted me to read. Mom's Book he said. Is that the best?
