Overview

More than 400 number chain workouts guaranteed to give your gray matter calculator a thorough challenge

Good number skills are important for many reasons, from estimating costs while shopping to understanding interest rates and planning a savings. Unfortunately, most people today rarely perform calculations in their heads, leaving them in the slow lane when it comes to mental arithmetic. Thankfully, this book is here to help. Chock full of hundreds of number chains, each one consists of six calculations to perform in sequence on an initial given number. Novice mathematicians perform each numeric operation in order, from top to bottom as shown by the arrows, and write the result in the handy results box at the bottom. There's a mix of figures and words in the tasks and puzzles get harder as one moves through the book, forcing brains to work harder as they convert the words into numbers. All answers are contained at the back of the book so that progress can be tested along the way.
