Overview

The ultimate cheat sheet that sets out a workable and flexible plan for successful weight loss to fit every lifestyle and diet choice.

In this “worst-case diet survival handbook”, nutritionist and founder of Foodtrainers™, Lauren Slayton offers strategies and tips to avoid the most disastrous diet booby traps. Along with her no-nonsense nutrition and exercise advice, readers will discover that the missing component of most weight-loss schemes is planning. Planning to succeed and planning for the obstacles on the way to slim are as vital as what and when to eat and how to incorporate fat-burning activity into your day.

All too many dieters give up when they hit a few road bumps created by work, family, socializing, travel, fatigue or indifference. Slayton comes to the rescue with:

• The Big 10 “Do-Not-Pass-Go” Basics, from high protein breakfast to “closing the kitchen” after dinner!
• Top Ten Things to Avoid to Get Healthy and Slim Down Fast
• The 4 P’s — Plan, Purchase, Prep and Promise — to get and stay on track
• The 4-Step Treat Training Strategy to survive the “Witching Hour”

Dozens of smart, simple ways to cope with the big obstacles to slim: family, restaurants, travel, entertaining, alcohol and more. Slayton provides the know-how and the what-to-do-when-things-go-south to help readers keep on track, no matter what diet they follow.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
12/02/2013
Nutrition counselor and founder of Foodtrainers™, a New York City–based nutrition practice, Slayton takes a light-hearted approach to dieting, though her method is thorough. According to Slayton, the average dieter makes four attempts at weight loss per year, but most diet plans fail because there is no action plan that addresses the inevitable obstacles. This streamlined text addresses a number of such scenarios, including dating, traveling (i.e. avoid the “carbinental breakfast”), holidays, and business lunches. Slayton cleverly delivers sound advice: for instance, she favors eating a bigger meal at lunchtime (she calls it “dunch,” a cross between lunch and dinner), steering clear of food in the evenings, and doing a “walkthrough” at the beginning of the day to plan meals and snacks. Her “Ten Steps to Svelte” will also help readers get off to a good start and end their day with a weight-reducing seven hours of sleep. Peppered with illustrations and pithy quotes, the book is both entertaining and practical. Readers will appreciate Slayton’s word-play as well as by her real-life solutions to such dilemmas as quick weight loss strategies for the beach or how to be “choosy when boozy.” A modest number of slimming recipes are included. Agent: Lauren Galit, LKG Agency. (Dec.)

Finally a book to help make healthly eating a lifestyle and not a crash diet from a trusted nutritionist! Humorously written, LBT is packed with information - including how to avoid derailment in real life situations (restuarants, holidays, etc) and how to best eat (and exercise! and sleep!) your way to thin! A must read!!!

Such a great read to start off the new year! Gives you all the tools you need when facing food stress (holidays, dating, sports games) in a practical, relatable way!  I always have food troubles when traveling, but Slayton goes into great detail for keeping a healthy itinerary when traveling! Already working on creating my food first aid kit, thank you thank you for your brilliant, sound advice!

Love. The advice/strategies are so good, but the best part is that it's funny and practical. My favorite is the chapter about snacking--one of my favorite activities--and how to do it right. I also really like the little ideas like having a Food First Aid kit for travel and a nut case for portion control.

finally!!!! A diet-related book that is NOT A DIET BOOK. I have never been a fan of books that tell you to follow ONE DIET PLAN. It's impractical and not sustainable. You follow the plan and a few weeks later, you're back to where you started (for me at least).  So happy this book is not like other diet books. It's all about strategies that anyone can use when they are watching their weight. Such practical advice, thank you for this!

Practical advice for real life situations such as parties, kids' birthday parties, dates, etc which make weight loss and eating healthy difficult to do. Not a diet book, more of a strategy book. Great illustrations and such a fun and enjoyable read!!!

This is not your average diet/health book with calorie counting

This is not your average diet/health book with calorie counting and boring rules. The Little Book of Thin is super fun and easy to read with down to earth and practical tips. I especially love the 10 steps to svelte which sets you up with the basics. It uncomplicates all the dieting drama and healthy eating advice out there. Love it!!!
