Overview

At first glance, Little Drummer Boy seems like it would be incredibly dated. But surprisingly enough, the Harry Simeone Chorale is a great group of vocalists that performs a wonderful set of Christmas carols. The music is kept in a traditional choral style, but the performances are quite spirited and lively. Album highlights include "Little Drummer Boy," which benefits from the gentle orchestration placed gingerly underneath the singing, and "Carol of the Bells," which twists and sways perfectly as it is sung in a round. Overall, this is a great holiday album with solid traditional arrangements and fantastic singing that fans of choral music (or Christmas music in general) will probably enjoy.

This album was given to me in 1963 when I was nine years old and I played the LP until it is now unintelligible. I no longer have a turntable so was ecstatic to find it in CD format. The songs on this CD are some of the best ever written, especially the Puerto Rican carol. Now my daughters and grand children can continue the family tradition of playing this album while baking cookies and wrapping gifts.

I grew up listening to this album and I have searched for it for years. I was listening to the radio and The Little Drummer Boy came on and I recognized it immediately and made a note of the artist. I can't wait to share it with my family!

I have listened to my Mom's scratchy, pirated from LP to cassette copy of this every Christmas for 27 years. I've been looking for it on CD for years, and I'm so glad I finally found it. Now I can share great Christmas music with my daughter.

I remember listening to this album as a little girl and have been seaching for years to find it. I found Ray Conniff and Leroy Anderson, all albums I listened to with my parents at Christmas and can now share them with my children. It brings back happy memories of my childhood.

Although this recording does not include the entire album originally released by Kapp, most are here and all are timeless classics. Christmas wouldn't be the same without this album. My Dad's Kapp version of this album still gets a regular workout every Christmas, and now I have my own copy.

I am glad to find this on CD and like everyone else, I have listened to this for 40 years. It has many songs on it that you can't find anymore on other Xmas albums.

I had found Ray Coniff's Christmas album, a favorite from my childhood, but never thought I would find Little Drummer Boy! I knew all of the songs and what the cover of my parent's vinyl album looked like, but not the artist. Searching through thousands of titles was well worth the effort. I bought two copies and will enjoy the music for years to come. I especially love the traditional lyrics of these songs and that many of the songs are combined into medleys. In addition. "Go Tell It On the Mountain" is a real treat.
