Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 3-6-An interesting addition to the plethora of craft and activity books based on children's literature. This compilation provides a glimpse into the Victorian era, when pleasures were simple, families were close-knit, and homemade fun was a way of life. The chapters evolve from quotes from Little Women and present charming party ideas with recipes, easy projects, and gifts, all using readily available, inexpensive materials. One chapter includes a selection of Victorian parlor games, such as Rigmarole, charades, and Truth. Directions are clear, though brief. When adult assistance is needed for safety, it is clearly noted. Colorful watercolor paintings enhance the text. Young and old Little Women enthusiasts will find this a treasure trove of ideas. Unfortuntely, there is no index of activities. The ``American Girl Pastimes'' series (Pleasant) is similar in its period coverage of crafts and cookery, but divides the topics into separate volumes.-Beth Irish, Orange Public Library, CA
