Overview

Rex Rolen and his brother Jody are driving a herd of zombies to San Francisco. The drive appears to be routine enough--just business as usual in the post-Rupture world--but in reality it's a cover for a deadly mission.

Things begin to go wrong for the brothers when Jody is killed and comes back as a zombie. Rex adds him to the herd and continues the journey, but travel's kind of hazardous without someone to watch his back. He has a close call with a wild bear in the woods, another with a man who's criminally half-dead, and another with a revivalist preacher called the Lazarene.

But Rex survives and discovers that rattlesnake venom can restore zombies to life (or pretty close to it), and he reanimates Jody. Together they push on to San Francisco and their deadly appointment in the bay, beneath Treasure Island.
