Meet the Author

The Lodge Company, a family-owned, family operated business, makes its home in South Pittsburg, Tennessee — a tiny community nestled along the Cumberland Plateau of the Appalachian Mountains. Founded in 1896 by Joseph Lodge, Lodge has been manufacturing quality cast-iron cookware for 112 years. It is the only American manufacturer of cast iron cookware, and has been extraordinarily savvy about pleasing its customers. Not forgetting its roots, Lodge still produces unseasoned cast iron products as well as cookware for outdoor and camp cooking. Understanding that tastes change, however, several years ago Lodge developed and introduced a line of pre-seasoned cookware and enameled cast-iron cookware, both of which have been extraordinarily successful. Not even the most expensive stainless and aluminum cookware can rival the even heating, heat retention, durability and value of Lodge Cast Iron. Its legendary cooking performance keeps it on the list of kitchen essentials for great chefs and home kitchens alike. Lodge released a book in 2003, A Skillet Full, a self-published book in conjunction with their local historical society and sold over 130,000 copies with limited distribution. The power of the Lodge brand crosses platforms and conjures up memories of home cooking for millions of Americans. Its rich heritage and quality cookware not only offers a nostalgic connection to cooking but transcends multiple generations of savvy cooks.

Cookbook explores cooking in cast iron. Well written, lavish photos, yummy recipes!

I first saw this cookbook in a big box store locally. I had recently started cooking more and more with cast iron pans. I had a couple of Calphalon pans, but I had recently purchased a 12" Lodge pan. I had used that pan a lot in the past few weeks and really liked it. Lodge pans are made right here in the USA, unlike others. They are well made from a family-run business with a record of quality and making appropriate changes as technology advances. We both like this cookbook, the recipes are well written, there are some recipes that I never imagined. I like cookbooks that take me in new directions and let me try something I've never tried before. Ranging from simple to elaborate, the recipes have all kinds of skill levels. There is great introductory info at the beginning of the cookbook, telling you to how to cook well with this particular type of pan. Also, there are helpful tips throughout the book as well, some of which have become part of my cooking wisdom already. If you like cooking with cast iron, this may be a valuable addition to your cookbook library.

    Highly Recommended

I bought this for my husband who loves to cook...along with a cast iron griddle recently. He loves the ideas in the cookbook and now we will be purchasing a Lodge Cast Iron skillet to cook meals in. I am really looking forward to the peach cobbler!

    Everyday Ingredients with a Twist

This cookbook was requested by my husband, a dutch oven aficionado. He liked it so well we bought another as a gift. It has also been a favorite among his dutch oven friends.

The recipes use ingredients found in your local grocery store; however they may combine them in a new or different way--just enough to raise interest and make you want to try them, but not so strange the family would turn up their noses.

My favorite so far is "Cast Iron-Roasted Red Potatoes with Rosemary and Onion."

The recipe comments and side stories are interesting as well as informative.
