Overview

Charles DuChamp is high-born, formidable, and in line to inherit Fielding Park upon the death of his older cousin—thus depriving the Fielding women of their secure home. That is, unless his cousins marry well, his fond hope. But his attention is captured not by the manor house and beautiful grounds, but by his sharp-witted, independent, and outrageously proud red-haired cousin, whose good esteem he finds far more precious and elusive as the high-stakes matrimonial games unfold.

Emily Fielding is not about to accept a distant cousin with welcoming arms, especially when one day he'll give them all the boot. She is determined to trump his every card. But the game of love proves more surprising and dangerous than either can imagine. Despite her valiant protests and incorrigible behavior towards him, she finds love's winning hand is not always expected—but can be triumphant.

Meet the Author

A writer for most of her life, Sharon Sobel is the author of several novels, short stories, and works of fiction, including an other Regency era novel released by Blue Star Books, Family Portrait.

She earned her PhD in English Language and Literature from Brandeis University and is currently a professor of English at Norwalk Community College in Connecticut.

Business and pleasure have taken her and her husband, and their three children on travels throughout the world, where she does research for her writing. Other interests include serving on the Board of Trustees of the local historical society, and the board of the Connecticut and Lower New York (COLONY) Chapter of Romance Writer’s of America.

Though a native New Yorker, Sharon has lived with her family for twenty years in an eighteenth century Connecticut farmhouse surrounded by stone walls, old plantings, and overgrown meadows. Her computer, somewhat newer than the antiques surrounding it, is rarely turned off.

Sharon is President-elect of the Beau Monde, on the Grant Committee of RWA and is chair of the Connecticut Writer’s Conference.
