Overview

Bestselling author Rob Morgan explores the rich meaning and transcendent comfort of the world’s best-known and most-loved poem: Psalm 23.

At a time of great uncertainty for so many people, pastor and celebrated writer Rob Morgan offers the timeless solace of one of history’s most famous poems—six verses that comprise the most memorized passage in the Bible and that, as Morgan shows, provide a microcosm of God’s grace.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want….Appearing in the middle of a trilogy of psalms, the twenty-third is a soul-soother, a powerful tranquilizer when anxiety robs us of sleep. While Psalm 22 reminds us that the Savior’s cross takes care of our past failures, and Psalm 24 relates how the Sovereign’s Crown ensures a joyful future, Psalm 23 reveals how the Shepherd’s crook delivers our present needs. Morgan teaches the psalm verse by verse, brilliantly illuminating its fascinating context and colorful background, and even shares his own charming, real-life stories of herding sheep. According to Morgan, in knowing the Good Shepherd, we are totally prepared to meet our internal, external, and eternal requirements. What emerges is more than biblical scholarship, offering a journey through simple truths that inspire and buoy the spirit in the most challenging of moments.

Editorial Reviews

Doctor - Bill Jones
“I rarely read the introduction to a book, much less a prologue. But when asked to review Rob’s latest book, I wanted to be responsible and read every page, so I dutifully began with the prologue and introduction. By the time I finished, I was quite surprised by how much of a deeper understanding I had gained about a very familiar Psalm. And that paled in comparison to what I received from the rest of the book! Not only do I know Psalm 23 better, but I better know the Lord as my shepherd.”
Benjamin S. Carson
“In this medicinal book, Rob Morgan offers an alternative to anti-anxiety medications. Even if your life is not stressful, The Lord Is My Shepherd brings soothing peace.”

“Rob uses Psalm 22, 23, and 24 to show a triad picture of how the Great Shepherd of the sheep wants to take care of our past, present, and future needs. Rob’s insight into Psalm 23 is spot on, because of his relationship with the Sovereign Shepherd and his experience both shepherding and sheepherding. His personal stories will have you gripping your heart, weeping, rejoicing and ultimately ruminating upon Psalm 23.”

The Lord is my Shepherd: Resting in the Peace and Power of Psalm 23 5 out of 5 based on 0 ratings. 1 reviews.

Robert J. Morgan in his new book "The Lord Is My Shepherd" published by Howard Books gives us Resting in the Peace and Power of Psalm 23. From the back cover: Serenity...peace...calm...rest... Do you long for these? Are the stresses of life wearing you down? Are you anxious, afraid, worried? Are you simply not resting, unable to find peace? Through the timeless words of Psalm 23 you can be instantly transported to green pastures, still waters, and a restored soul. The Twenty-third Psalm is the world's best-known and most-beloved poem. It's been engraved on the hearts of every generation from antiquity to modernity. It's been quoted across the centuries and through the millennia, and its enduring message is for you...today. As both a sheep owner and a pastor, author Robert Morgan knows a thing or two about shepherding, and brings that understanding to this beautiful book. Verse-by-verse explanations of the psalm uncover the rich blessings of the time-tested promises, and intriguing stories of men and women who have lived the psalm in the difficulties of life offer invaluable insights into your own life. Take a journey through the simple truths of this life-giving psalm and enjoy the restoration and calm that are waiting for you. Psalm 23 is exactly twelve lines long but it is densely packed with meaning. Robert J. Morgan is both a pastor and a sheep owner so he understands about sheep, therefore he understands a lot of the meaning of this wonderful psalm. The book is broken down into two parts: Part One, "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and Part Two, "I Shall Not Want". Pastor Morgan does not give us a dry analysis of these verses he goes into an almost word by word visual exploration of what David was talking about when he wrote this psalm. In addition, Pastor Morgan gives lots of stories about how this psalm was used by lots of individuals across the planet. Why do we need this book? We get cluttered with stress, worry, cares that draw our attention, "The Lord Is My Shepherd" re-focuses our attention on our Shepherd and away from those things so that we can be renewed and refreshed. It won't take you long to read this whole book through. The real fun is when you come back to it to read each Part and each chapter within each part to savor all the richness within its pages. This is one book you will be returning to over and over again. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Howard Books. I was not required to write a positive review.
