Overview

Continuing the story of The Hobbit, this three-volume paperback boxed set of Tolkien’s epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, features exclusive covers from Peter Jackson’s award-winning film trilogy, the definitive text, and a detailed map of Middle-earth.

Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered to him all the Rings of Power – the means by which he intends to rule Middle-earth. All he lacks in his plans for dominion is the One Ring – the ring that rules them all – which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins.

In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as the Ring is entrusted to his care. He must leave his home and make a perilous journey across the realms of Middle-earth to the Crack of Doom, deep inside the territories of the Dark Lord. There he must destroy the Ring forever and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.

To celebrate the release of the first of Peter Jackson’s three-part film adaptation of The Hobbit, THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, readers can discover how the journey continues in The Lord of the Rings with this special boxed set of the complete work, with exclusive cover images from the award-winning film trilogy.

Although I own one of the ultimate editions of Professor Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings,' I figured that adding a multi-volume copy to my library would be useful. Imagine my surprise when I came across this bargain! Admittedly, I was a bit hesitant to purchase a 'bargain book.' However, the set which I received has no visible imperfections. An amazing price for an invaluable work! A side note: try taking off the dust jacket to reveal a very classic depiction of the Ring, et cetera.

The text of this edition is reset, making it easy for the eyes compared with earlier editions. (pre 1990) The missing line from the ring (One ring to rule them all... One ring to bind...) is restored. The book is light, easy to hold, and the paper is reasonable. Great for reading. If you want more artworks you may consider the HC version recently released

J.R.R. Tolkien was really creative when he wrote these books. All three were fantastic! I recommend these books to anyone! The movies are awesome too, but nothing compares to the books.

These books are great. I couldn't put them down. Tolkien knows what he's doing! The way that he writes makes you feel like you are in the book, on the quest with the hobbits. I've read it twice. These books are a MUST READ for any fantasy lover.

As a high school english teacher, I have my students read this book every year. It's great, more that excellent. I'd have to say it is the most comprehensive book I have every read.

I liked The Lord of the Rings because it was interesting, descriptive, and had a good plot. The best parts of the book are when they are heading into danger, fighting breaks out, and when they meet new charactors or creatures. There were no bad parts. Get this book and read it.

It all started December 25th 1989 when my dad recieved the series as a gift. Since then he has been continualliy re-reading it non-stop. When I picked up The Hobbit for the first time I knew I was hooked as well. Ever since 1989, me and my dad have rotated those old worn-out books, and the story gets better every time I read it!!!

JRR Tolkien is, by far, one of the best fantasy writers out there. I was captivated with the adventures throughout. This is a timeless classic. Something your kids will enjoy...and then their kids as well. An experience well worth your time.
