Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a genuine masterpiece. The most widely read and influential fantasy epic of all time, it is also quite simply one of the most memorable and beloved tales ever told. Originally published in 1954, The Lord of the Rings set the framework upon which all epic/quest fantasy since has been built. Through the urgings of the enigmatic wizard Gandalf, young hobbit Frodo Baggins embarks on an urgent, incredibly treacherous journey to destroy the One Ring. This ring -- created and then lost by the Dark Lord, Sauron, centuries earlier -- is a weapon of evil, one that Sauron desperately wants returned to him. With the power of the ring once again his own, the Dark Lord will unleash his wrath upon all of Middle-earth. The only way to prevent this horrible fate from becoming reality is to return the Ring to Mordor, the only place it can be destroyed. Unfortunately for our heroes, Mordor is also Sauron's lair. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is essential reading not only for fans of fantasy but for lovers of classic literature as well.

A book you can not put down!!!!

"One ring to rule them all. One ring to find them, one ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them" (Tolkien). Thrilling and breathtaking are just a couple of words that precisely descript J.R.R Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, which captures it readers with the exhilarating paths each character takes. Paths that Frodo Baggins and his friends must take in order to destroy the one ring that could destroy all of middle earth. When Frodo Baggins and his fellow hobbits are trudging through a forest, they are overcome with a deep yearn for sleep. Once asleep a magical tree engulfs Frodo's friends into its trunk and pushes him into a river. How could this happen and other questions soon begin to race through your mind. A desperate need to discover why this has occurred soon forces you to read on. In another chapter of The Lord of The Rings Aragon, a member of the fellowship and his beloved elven soul mate are introduced. Their love for one another is so strong and to prove it Aragon's elven love gives up her immortality for him. True love is represented here and a perfect example of what everyone desires. Their love, yet so strong, will surely come across trouble because of Aragon's necessity to follow his obligations as a member of the fellowship. However in order to discover the conclusions of both tales you must read the book, which will surely enchant you as it has to me and millions of other readers!

An epic novel that will keep you reading right up to the end.

This is Tolkein's best write ever. In the Lord of the Rings, he surpassed the world of fantasy and made this book into a reality. Mixed with history it seemed as if Middle Earth was part of the world and that it was also part of our history. Regardless of its length, it was a highly satisfying read. I recommend this to readers of all kinds.

the greatest epic of our time

The Lord of the Rings The fellowship of the Ring By J.J.R. Tokien The greatest fantasy epic of our time Frodo Baggins, a young Hobbit is being chased by Ringwraits, dark fearsome creatures also known as the black riders. The Hobbit travels with a small band of companions, headed towards Rivendale, with the help of Strider, a ranger they met at the Prancing Pony. They travel through rough and dangerous obstacles trying to dodge the black riders hoping to reach it to their destination alive. When they got to Rivendale their feeling of success suddenly became the feeling of disappointment after the Meeting of Elrond. Their journey to Rivendale became a journey to Mount Doom! Frodo now has his eight other companions to go along with him on this journey. They are the fellowship of the ring. Now Frodo and his companions have to travel an even more difficult obstacle than before. They tried to climb a mountain, but was defeated by the blanket of snow. They then go to the Mines of Moria where they get attacked by Orcs (fearsome creatures). After a battle they decide to run. The enemy draws closer ands closer, but stopped when a more evil creature came. Everyone, but Gandalf crossed the bridge of Khazad-dum. Gandalf stays in the middle of the bridge. When it seems like Gandalf beats the creature, it pulls him into the shadow of doom with it. The resume their journey in despair. They met Lorien the queen of the forest. They spend the night at the elf village. Lorien shows Frodo what would happen in the future, and if a single mistake is to be made, the whole world is doomed. They are given boats to cross the river and hope for the journey ahead of them. They reach land and is again attacked by Orcs. Another member is killed. Frodo and Sam secretly sneak ahead hoping no other member would follow, for in Frodo's mind lies the safety of the fellowship. Will any one survive? Will the remaining members defeat the Orcs? Will Frodo and Sam reach Mount Doom safely? And will the Fellowship of the Ring break apart? I found this story exiting and addictive. This is the perfect book for any teen or adult who enjoys a fantasy.
