Overview

My name is Melodi White, I had a dream once like every other girl does. Then one day, my dream was torn to shreds, by my sister’s evil boyfriend, Jacob. It’s been three years since she was ripped from my life. She wasn’t just any sister; no, she was my twin, my best friend.

Deciding to follow our childhood dream of moving to New York, I head for a life of adventure and fun. A night on the town and I find myself wrapped in the arms of one gorgeous, drop-dead-sexy man, Corban. He has literally swept me off my feet, taken my breath away with a single kiss and left me wanting more, a feeling completely alien to me.

Corban Andrews, CEO of Case Construction, rich, sexy and ravishing is set to make my world come undone. I allow myself to put my trust in him, but will his rules and my trust issues let us explore what we could have together? It’s either that or am I at risk of staying lost and alone.

When a blast from my past reappears, I know I may be pushed so far down the rabbit hole, Corban and I just may not survive. It all comes down to survival and choices. I have no idea which I will choose.

A bit of nothing. Very disappointing. Really hated cliff hanger at end. How can I not predict that Rich baby sister will be involved with the presumed killer. Yawn.

I loved this book because the connection between melodi and corban was so strong. They were honest with each other, which help strengthen thier love. I do think the first time they were together was rushed, but i would always enjoy reading more about them.

I was gifted this book awhile ago by the author. I don't even know how long it has been, but I remember her asking me to consider leaving a review. Actually, now that I checked my FB messages, she gifted it to me in October 2014. So not too late, compared to other books I have that I promised reviews. Anyway, the book starts off in a courtroom. From there we skip ahead to present day and how Melodi is still trying to cope with the loss of her sister. Although this book is mostly romance, it also holds the mystery as to what happened to Melodi's sister. I love books with mysteries, because it allows me to try and guess what has happened and predict what is to come. Although the love relationship is (to me) a little rushed, I found myself enjoying the relationship between Corban and Melodi. It wasn't too intense, with them saying "I love you" constantly like in other books I've read. That is a plus.  I had honestly expected more of a mystery/suspense book than I did a romance book, but it's okay. I don't read romance often, preferring books with romance as a sub-genre. And before I forget, I should mention Jacob is a slimy git. I would have done what Melodi did in the courthouse as well. He had it coming.  The appearance of someone important at the end surprised me. And that cliffhanger . . . I loved it. It's no secret that I love cliffhangers. It gets me to speculating about what will happen in the next book, which I intend to purchase whenever the author releases it.  Overall, I liked The Lost One and it gets 4/5 Platypires.

* I received an ebook in exchange for an honest review. * The Lost One (The Lost Series #1) is the debut novel from up and coming new author Liz Lovelock and she knocks it out of the park!! It was a roller coaster ride from start to finish and left the reader wanting more!  The book was so well written that I would have never guessed that this was the author's debut novel, as she has the talent of a seasoned author. The main characters are so complex and so not ready for their chance meeting on the stairs of a club...Melodi doesn't trust any man and Corbin doesn't do relationships...this all leads up to an amazing road paved with bumps, twists and turns.  The author does an amazing job of keeping the reader on the edge of their seats and with their fingers turning the pages! The plot was so quick moving and smooth that the reader couldn't find a good place to stop to take a break. The author reels the reader in right from the start and never lets them go.  The angst of the characters feels so real as do the panic attacks, the nerves and the feelings of despair that come through the pages of the book.  The author makes the reader feel like they are in the book with the characters and they go through each emotion  with them.  There were times that I thought that I was going through the feelings right along with the characters.  Flick and Liam, Rachel and Axel, and Melodi and Corbin may be my new favorite couples!!  This will not be the last book that I read by author Liz Lovelock - she just needs to get book 2 out now! I need it right now! I have to see how the story plays out....especially with the cliffhanger to end all cliffhanger endings that she left us with in book 1.  Make sure you add this book to your TBR list and get reading!  It is a must read, and a must read soon! ***Review has been done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official.  ***

I received this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review. The premise of this story is a good one and I was intrigued from the start. Melodi has lost her sister, presumed dead, but a body has never been found and the boyfriend who Melodi "knows" did it, has got away scot-free. She moves in an attempt to get on with her life whilst still honouring her sister's memory. Things go a bit deeper when the policeman who approached Melodi and her family after the trial, turns up in her life again. Also the boyfriend turns up and starts threatening Melodi, saying he knows that her sister is still alive. Mixed in with this is Melodi and Corban's love story. Corban has a lot of fans out there but I'm afraid to say that he did absolutely nothing for me. He knows that Melodi is a virgin but is happy to presume that she is "taking care of things". And when, in fact, he finds out that she isn't, he isn't prepared to do anything himself and instead just gets carried away in the moment. The story itself was enjoyable and ends on a cliffhanger but for me, the main characters let it down. I couldn't relate to either of them and certainly didn't see the positive aspects that everyone else seems to. A good story for fans of Contemporary Romance but just not one for me.

Gifted Copy I have to say that I loved every minute of the book. I was pulled in right from the start. This book has a little of everything you might want, heartbreak, suspense, heart pounding moments, fear. Very hot and emotionally charged encounters! Talk about having some really wonderful surprise in this plot! Melodi, is a very head strong powerful girl. She knows what she wants, sets standards for herself, can she set some of them aside for the man she seems to have to have in her life. Corban that sexy as hell man that walks in a room and cause all the women to swoon! This man is what most women would dream of! Fierce and powerful yet the most caring and wonder person to those he knows. Hats of to Liz for an amazing book and job!!! I'm beyond excited to read the next book in this series!

I was really excited about this book.  I was looking forward to seeing Melodi fall in love and start to slowly come back to life after the loss of her beloved twin.  Instead I got that and some more surprises, some great and some not-so great. Melodi and Corban had great chemistry. There were sparks a plenty.  I just wasn't a big fan of their insta-love/attraction.  When it happened it really took me by surprise.  I liked Melodi and Corban.  I loved how Melodi was trying to live her life to the fullest after losing Abby in such a horrific manner. I wanted to kill Jacob especially when he was being smug about hurting Abby.  I liked Corban too. He really cared for Melodi although I didn't like how he hid some truths from her or played hard to get.  Especially when it was clear he was interested.  In this case Melodi would be in her rights to be leery of Corban, but it was the other way around. I really liked the mystery and suspense that kept building as the book continued.  I was surprised with Blake's reentry into the story and actually liked how the story switched from focusing mainly on the romance to this part.  The end was a complete and total surprise.  In fact you could say it ends on a type of cliffhanger. I liked parts of this story and not others.  There were a few parts which seemed weak especially with Melodi back tracking over her decisions frequently.  Since I read an ARC, which means editing needs to be done, the parts that bothered me could've been tightened and tweaked.  I will say that even though I think the concept behind this book is fabulous, I wasn't overly impressed with what I read.  I will also so that I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series.  I've got to know what happened between Abby and Jacob.

4.5 Stars Melodi is grieving the loss of her twin sister. She had big plans to move to New York so she is going to try and fulfill them. In meeting Corban is realizes she might want more out of life then just being alone. Can she trust a man after what happened to her sister? Will she be able to tell Corban about her sister? When the past comes back to haunt her can she overcome it or will it break the ties she has with Corban and send her into a spiral of fear and pain? I am hoping since the book ended on a cliffy we get book two really soon. I recommend this book and can’t wait for the next installment.

4.5 Stars A debut novel that will pull you in from the very beginning. Liz Lovelock did an amazing job bringing all sorts of emotions and strong, sexy, confident characters.  Melodi struggles with the loss of her sister. She is determined to live out her life and follow her dreams like they had once planned but she still has her moments when the sadness takes over. It's understandable and very easy to get caught up in the emotions and tear up because the sadness just seeps right through the pages. I like that, all though she does have her moments, she is still strong, confident, funny and very clumsy.  After stumbling, literally, into the arms of the sexy Corban Andrews, they are both taken with each other. Corban is very sweet and caring with Melodi. He will have you swooning no doubt. I love the secondary characters as well. Flick and Rachel, are absolutely funny and had me laughing at some of the things they say. They are a great support for Melodi and when they are all together and drunk it's quite comical.  Towards the end the story it takes on a whole different level and the suspense and emotions will have you so consumed you will not want to put the book down.  I love a story that draws out emotion and leaves you wanting more. Liz Lovelock does exactly that. What a wonderful job on this debut and I cannot wait to read the next one.

Good start for a new author Favorite Quotes:   “His thumb rubs over the back of my hand, sending my head swimming with longing for his touch over my entire body.  I have never craved someone to touch me in this way, but Corban is someone I never thought I would find.”  “Can I slap her?”  I don’t care if she is his sister or not.  She has done her dash with me, and if you wanna be rude to me, you’re cut and I won’t even bother with you again.”    My Review:   The story starts of on a somber note, stays there for a while, and frequently circles back to those low notes, due to the tragic and traumatic loss of the character’s twin sister.  When the main character - Melodi - moves to a new city, hoping to start over, her adventure begins.  The story moves rather slowly, and feels like a drama, but it does pick up.  The writing is easy to follow and I enjoyed the use humor and the klutziness of Melodi.  I like feisty gals, although Melodi seemed a bit immature for my taste, and I wanted her sweetie to smack her in the back of the head for the way she treated him.  This is not a sizzler, yet is too steamy to be considered YA, so I would tag it a mild New Adult with elements of suspense.  I see this is listed as her debut work, and is a good start for a new author.  I am intrigued and want to know what happens next, but huffed and puffed with major aggravation due to the cliffhanger – I hate those ;(

Solid 3.5 Stars - Loved the mystery and am looking forward to book 2! This was a good read that had a very strong prologue that sucked me in to the mystery of the story. I enjoyed the characters – Melodi was a very strong heroine who has dealt with the loss of her sister and is trying to move on, Corban was definitely a sexy CEO who was sweet and considerate, and I loved Melodi’s friend Flick and Corban’s sister Rachel, who both added great fun to the story. I loved the last half of the book, where pieces of the mystery start to come together and the suspense starts to ramp up. But for me the start of the book after the prologue through the first half was just a bit slow paced and I struggled to get through it. I’m glad I did, because I really enjoyed the last half, but I think the fact that I’m not a big fan of the “insta-love” trope and perhaps that the boss/employee relationship resolution wasn't really developed fully (I wish there was just a little more angst there!), made the first half run a bit slow for me. As I said, I did enjoy the ending and am anxious to read the second book to find out where things are going. I was truly captivated by the mystery in the book and think the author has a fabulous plot line and story arc for another good book (or books!) to see the mystery through it’s resolution. I received this book from the author for an honest review.

There are not enough words I can use to describe this amazing debut novel from Liz Lovelock. Melodi White and her twin sister Abby have a dream to live it up in New York and are working towards this dream when all of a sudden the carpet is pulled out from underneath Melodi.  Abby disappears without a trace and her evil, abusive boyfriend Jacob is to blame. Melodi decides to go ahead and live their dream and moves to New York where, on a night out at a local club she meets the stunningly attractive Corban Andrews who exudes sex appeal from every pore.  Just one kiss and she is sucked into his vortex and she knows she needs more. Corban is not your usual domineering, alpha CEO and Melodi is not your typical dramatic angsty submissive female lead but together they work. Just when Melodi seems to be getting hold of her life a "chance" meeting tips her world on it's axis. This is a fantastic debut novel - a thrilling roller coaster of emotions with twist and turns I did not see coming.  I highly recommend it and I can't wait for more in their story.
