Overview

Lady Imogen Moore hasn't had an easy time of it since she made her Come Out three Seasons ago. With her betrothed, a powerful duke breaking it off to wed her sister, she's become the tons favorite piece of gossip. Never again wanting to experience the pain of a broken heart, she's resolved to make a match with a polite, respectable gentleman. The last thing she wants is another reckless rogue.

Lord Alex Edgerton has a problem. His brother, tired of Alex's carousing has charged him with chaperoning their remaining, unwed sister about ton events. Shopping? No, thank you. Attending the theatre? He'd rather be at Forbidden Pleasures with a scantily clad beauty upon his lap. The task of chaperone becomes even more of a bother when his sister drags along her dearest friend, Lady Imogen to social functions. The last thing he wants in his life is a young, innocent English miss.

Except, as Alex and Imogen are thrown together, passions flare and Alex comes to find he not only wants Imogen in his bed, but also in his heart. Yet now he must convince Imogen to risk all, on the heart of a rogue.

Meet the Author

USA TODAY Bestselling author CHRISTI CALDWELL blames Judith McNaught's "Whitney, My Love!" for luring her into the world of historical romance. While sitting in her graduate school apartment at the University of Connecticut, Christi decided to set aside her notes and pick up her laptop to try her hand at romance. She believes the most perfect heroes and heroines have imperfections, and she rather enjoys torturing them before crafting them a well deserved happily ever after!

Christi makes her home in southern Connecticut where she spends her time writing her own enchanting historical romances, chasing around her feisty six-year-old son and caring for her twin princesses in training!

I really enjoyed Christi Caldwell's new novella The Love of a Rogue, her third story in her series A Heart of a Duke! It's the cute, short and romantic story of Imogen and Alex. Imogen's betrothed had chosen her sister, instead of her. Feeling the pressure from her mother, to marry the perfect titled gentleman and the scandal, she decides to find a polite man, not another rogue, until she meets Alex. Alex, is a tormented soul! His father had been a cruel man, and he only feels like the less desirable son and doesn't know his own self-worth, until he meets Imogen. His brother, asks him to chaperon their unwed sister, Chloe! A rogue as a chaperon! Chloe is a match maker, and concocts a plan to get those two together. He surely didn't expect to meet a sweet young lady who would understand him. Will Imogen discover the true nature of Alex? Will he trust her enough to share his deepest secret? Will Imogen and Alex find true love? I really had fun following their romance and I'm looking forward to reading The Heart of a Duke, her 4th novella and story of Auric and Daisy.

Chloe, I really enjoyed this story, but my mind was wanting and needing more story of Chloe. Did she find a love, did she Get healthy. I even had her matched with was it primly? I got involved with her, Chloe. Only because of that, I gabe a 3 star.

I found it a bit bogged down by a little too much "mind-speek" by the characters. The authors style is different but the story as a whole was wonderfull. Im going to read another book to see how i like it. I would recommend this book.

I loved this novella.  In fact, I have loved every book in the Heart of a Duke series.  The name Imogen  draws up images of spinsters in my  head.  How horrible to have your betrothed dump you for your younger sister!  Alex is the perfect foil for Imogen's plans.  I loved their story .

So if you have read my blog or reviews over the past few months you would know I am absolutely IN LOVE with all of the heroes in Christi Caldwell’s books. Well we are going to add another one today called Alex! Poor Imogen; not only did she commit a gross faux pas at Almack’s, but now she has to live through the embarrassment of her sister marring the man to which she was betrothed. So now she has to suffer through the snide remarks and the gossiping women of the ton and at times, her own mother. She has one refuge, her best friend Chloe Edgerton. Sir Alex Edgerton (Chloe’s brother) has managed to survive a horrendous childhood and has become a reckless rake to take away his pain and memories. But now his brother Gabriel has cut him off; unless he becomes chaperone to his sister Chloe and by default to Lady Imogen too. It is only then does he see how Imogen suffers at the hands of her peers and her own family and he strives to protect her. But when it becomes Alex’s protectiveness public knowledge, he is stopped in his tracks by monsters of the past. So when it comes to the characters, what struck me first is that Imogen and the Edgerton’s back stories are truly stories of survivors and honestly, who couldn’t fall in love with Alex and his need to protect the women in his life. I would love to see both Chloe and Gabriel find their true loves as well. Once again Christi Caldwell blows me away with her beautifully moving story, which literally moved me to tears. The writing is flawless and smooth story and it lacks for nothing. So with all that being said, I give The Love of a Rogue 10 out of 10.

The Love of a Rogue by Christi Caldwell Heart of a Duke Series Book Three Lady Imogen Isabel Moore could be down on love after what happened to her, but she still hopes for it one day. She just won't fall for another man like she previously did. When she falls in love it will be the opposite of the Duke of Montrose. A man who does not drink brandy and live the life of a rogue. Never a man like her best friend's brother. The Marquess of Waverly, Lord Alex Edgerton, is left to enjoy his vices alone after his friend Stanhope falls in love. Love is not something Alex believes in or ever plans on receiving. As a second son the women enjoy him in their bed, nothing more. Only now, his older brother has interrupted Alex's life with one of his commands. I really enjoyed this story. Imogen and her friend Chloe were exciting characters. Alex was definitely a rogue but once you saw the man inside...it was hard not to love him. There are some other secondary characters that I hope get their own stories too.

I adored this novella in The Heart of the Duke series. Alex and Imogen's story had me laughing one minute and nearly crying the next. Christi Caldwell knows how to bring her characters to life and make us feel for them as if we have known them our whole life. She also introduces us to one of the most lovable secondary characters I have ever met. Alex's sister, Chloe, nearly steals the spotlight and she better get her own story.  I love that this story doesn't get bogged down with bedroom scenes. In fact there are only a couple of kisses but the romance and attraction are definitely there.  I highly recommend this story and all of Christi Caldwell's beautiful books. There is no need to have read the others in this series to enjoy this delightfully romantic tale, but you may just want to read the others after reading The Love of a Rogue.

The story is bogged down by the soap opera going on in the h/h's heads. This is compounded in the early chapters by fast POV shifts that left me wondering at times whose head we're in at the moment. That said, the author's exploration of the problems attendant on being a second son of the nobility is well done, as is the possible effect of being jilted on a lady's psyche in the 19th century. I just wish she hadn't reported ALL their emotions.
