Overview

New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands delivers a "madcap escapade" (Publishers Weekly) in this contemporary romance about a quirky inventor and unexpected love.

Shy Jane Spyrus loves gadgets. She can build anything B.L.I.S.S. needs in the international organization's fight against crime—although its agents aren't exactly lining up at her door. Some of them think her inventions are a little too . . . well, innovative. Like her shrink-wrap prophylactic constraints or her spray-on truth serum.

Of course, you can't use wacky inventions to fix all your problems; Jane knows that better than anyone. Her neighbor has been kidnapped, driving that point home. She will have to team up with another human being—and Abel Andretti arrives just in time. He will help Jane find her neighbor, stop a villain, and, most of all, he will show Jane how to love the daylights out of something without batteries.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Comic and campy, this James Bond-meets-Austin Powers spoof from Sands (The Key, etc.) is the third in Love Spell's series of romances involving B.L.I.S.S., a crime-fighting organization run almost entirely by women. Gadget girl Jane Spyrus works in B.L.I.S.S.'s Creation and Development department, inventing such oddities as shrink wrap condoms and mini-missile launchers shaped like vibrators. Though trained in the martial arts, Jane, a techno-geek at heart, has never had a chance to put her skills to use. But when her friend Edie Andretti is kidnapped by a family bent on world domination, Jane and her zany, ex-secret agent grandmother jump into action. Edie's dashing brother, Abel, rounds out the team and strikes up a steamy, often side-splitting romance with Jane. Armed with knock-out lipstick, dart-shooting shoes and truth-serum perfume, the intrepid trio attempt to stop the villainous Ensecksi family from inflicting their mind control technology upon the world. Jane is no Bond: she stumbles rather than strides and can't lie to save her life. But as the adventure unfolds, she believably turns her shy, size 12 self into a seductive super spy. Abel and Jane complement each other nicely, and together they bring some sanity to this madcap escapade. (On sale Apr. 15) Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.

This book should come with a warning label that says 'Caution: do not read in a public place unless you want to embarrass yourself by laughing out loud' I have read and enjoyed all of Lynsay Sands historical books but have also wondered what would happen if she put that wicked sense of humor in a contempory. Well, I wonder no more !! This is a wonderful, funny read with just the right amount of suspense thrown in to keep you turning the pages way past your bedtime. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is just the first of many contempories we get from her.

Jane Spyrus is the top inventor for B.L.I.S.S. Her work enables those working in the cold to succeed in very dangerous endeavors. For that the ultra shy Jane is highly regarded by her employers though some males might be a bit fearful of some of her gadgets that could cause a cramp or more to the family jewels............................... Edie Andretti believes there is something illegal at her place of employment Ensecksi Satellites. Someone believes she knows too much and kidnaps Edie, who just before her abduction had taken a tampon from Jane¿s supply. However, that is no ordinary tampon as Jane has hidden a tracking device inside. With Edie¿s brother Abel and Jane¿s wheelchair bound grandma Maggie, Jane follows the signal, but not before contacting B.L.I.S.S. Abel and Jane fall in love, but first must rescue his sibling before they can act on their feelings......................... Inane? Absolutely, but who will care as those beautiful ladies with their sex gadgetry save the world from evil doers. The third B.L.I.S.S. espionage romantic satire is fun due to the antics of timorous Jane and able Abel. Lynsay Sands spins a delightful story that is silly escapism entertainment for the Jane and James Bonds of the Casino Royale movie world......................... Harriet Klausner

A departure from her vampire series, but just as much fun to read. Hope to read more of this as long as she doesn't forget her vampire series.

I have read all of her other books. Although different from her other books, it was enjoyable and fun to read like all of her books are. I would recommend this book!!

Lynsay Sands is a super historical romance writer with a light touch that can lead to side-splitting giggles. She is one of the best writers that leaves you feeling good all over when you read her works. Well, this is her first contemporary and it is a fun romp! In the ladies from B*L*I*S*S* series (a series of spoofs by Dorchester with vrarious writers on the James Bond Books), Lynsay gives you a down to earth spy vs spy. In her warm and funny style, she offers one delicious romp! WARNING: if you have a chest cold or broke ribs do not read. If you are in a public place and do not want people looking at you - do no read there!! You will just laugh so hard you might hurt or embarrass yourself!! Jane Spyrus is into making gizmos for BLISS spy - and wow what gadgets!! Won't spoil the surprise and tell you about them, but lets say you will be howling from page one!! Jane's neighbour borrows something accidentally - a tracker - thinking it is something she needs on a hot date. Jane figures she will get it back from her later, but it comes in very handy when the neighbour's brother turns up looking for his missing sister. Jane, her wheelchair bound ex-spy grandmother and the brother are suddenly in hot pursuit of his sister who stumbled onto a super spy ring ala THRUSH. Suddenly, Jane is forced into be a spy instead of an inventor and it is once more one of Lynsay's delightfully warm and laugh out loud tales. I know Lynsay is a little nervous, this being her first contemporary, and afraid her historical fans might not want to read her first contemporary. To me Lynsay Sands on the cover is a guarantee you will have a wonderfully, funny time!! WISE Writers and Readers Book of the MONTH for February 2003 Was this review helpful to you?

I am a huge Lynsay Sands fan, so when I had the opportunity to review this re-release, I jumped at the chance! I was a little surprised at the craziness of the story. There’s action, adventure, mystery, romance, house pets, a sexy accountant, cantankerous grandma and quirky and sex-deprived weapons developer for a super-secret agency. Take Get Smart and add the hijinks of Scooby Doo and you’ve got THE LOVING DAYLIGHTS. I thought it was light and silly and a little too over the top for my taste. But I think other readers will enjoy this fun-loving story. ***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

A bit too tacky with the tongue in cheek MI5, MI6 gadgetry and spy structure references. I truly anticipated more from Sands here.

I am fan of Lynsay Sands for many years now and love her historical books.. I was a little hesitant about how I would like a contemporary book. I LOVED it! A funny. laugh-out-loud, fun read. Totally worth the money. Go and buy it!

Check your brain at the door and kick back and enjoy.  This is a silly tongue in cheek farce that will have you belly laughing as long as you don’t take it too seriously.  This story has slapstick, puns, and all the tools necessary to keep you giggling. Plus a hot accountant. This is a re-release but new to me.

Okay the road trip with Granny in a wheelchair, Tinkle the ferocious dog, the cat, the hero in restraints was pretty funny. More of a fantasy than a romance. The whole world dressing in yellow or Hawaiian shirts? Her Historicals are better..
