Overview

From Beth Kendrick comes a hilarious and heartwarming story about bad dogs and the women who love them…

Lara Madigan has a gift.  She can help you find your soulmate—your canine soul mate, that is.  As a dog trainer with a soft spot for strays, she’s found the perfect home for sulky Shih Tzus, broken-down Border Collies, and diabolical Dalmatians.  But while she’ll always make room for one more rescue mutt, she’s not sure she’s ready to commit to another human being—especially after her long-term boyfriend drops the bomb: He’s not a dog person.

Horrified and temporarily homeless, Lara and her furry pack move in with her mother, a wealthy fashionista who forbids even a single drop of drool. As word gets around the exclusive gated community, Lara is overwhelmed with demands for her services.  A model wants personal training for her overweight “flabrador”;  an aging socialite preps her pedigreed puppy for dog show domination.... If Lara can survive the breakup, the outrageous requests of her high-maintenance clientele, and her dogs' systematic destruction of her mother’s McMansion, she might finally find the rescue dog who rescues her in return—by leading her straight to the guy who could be her perfect match.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Kendrick (The Bake-Off) not only shines in portraying the subtleties of female friendships, but also at rendering the unbreakable bond between man (or woman) and dog. Lara Madigan and her best friend’s business is finding suitable families for rescued dogs. Though Lara has an uncanny ability to sense the perfect match, doggie matchmaking doesn’t pay the bills; in fact, it’s given her more debt—and more dogs—than she can handle. It has also put a strain on her relationship with boyfriend Evan, whose “Maybe I’m a people person” comment sends Lara and her rescued mutts to live with her nagging mother in her expansive home in North Scottsdale, Ariz., an exclusive community full of wealthy women in need of a good dog trainer. Before you can say “sit,” Lara not only finds a new career as “the Dog Doyenne” and strengthens her ties to her mom, but makes a perfect (human) match of her own. Kendrick has a similar talent for matchmaking: pairing her winsome heroine and her delightful group of canines in the service of a tale of nurturing one’s true calling and rekindling relationships. Agent: Amy Moore-Benson, AMB Literary Management. (May)
Booklist
Graced with a stellar cast of captivating characters (including an adorable pack of scene-stealing canines) and written with both sharp wit and genuine wisdom, Kendrick’s latest effervescent novel is a hopelessly, hopefully romantic treat.

Meet the Author

After growing up with a purebred Bernese mountain dog, Beth Kendrick fell in love with a scruffy stray terrier named Murphy and has been a sucker for rescue dogs ever since. She lives in Arizona with her family and two rambunctious red mutts. Despite owning three vacuum cleaners, she is constantly covered in dog hair.

    fun, light read

Am more than halfway with the book and being a dog (animal person)
I am enjoying that someone is working so hard to place animals that have been abandoned--they too need a good and loving home--

    Great story and characters!

Loved reading the story...so much that I stayed up late to finish the book. The people felt like people I would know and relate to, and I found myself thinking about the story after finishing the book, which is always a good sign. Just do yourself a favor and read everything this author writes.

I just read this book and I did it in 1 DAY! It was a fabulous read. If you like dogs you will love this book. I enjoy Beth Kendrick's writing in all of her novels but this one was her best! Pick up the book and you will find yourself understanding the different stories of the characters. This one stays in my permanent library.

    Kk

Finder howls to the pack, singing a song of her joys, sorrows, failures, winnings, and all about her life. It is a slightly sad howl tonight, but at the same time, makes you want to laugh.
