Overview

In the 1850s Japan had been cut off from the outside world for 240 years, but strong winds of change had begun to blow. Just at that time a lone American landed on Japan's forbidden shores to search for his sister and the woman he loved, both lost when their ship was storm-damaged nearby. The American - Neil Macneil - was aided in his search by a mysterious Japanese girl - a woodland nymph with remarkable powers. Thus began the saga of the Macneil clan, destined to be a force to reckon with in Japanese affairs for 130 years.
