The night that changes everything …
Life for Victoria Lacey should be perfect. And it is—perfectly boring. Agree to marry a lord who has yet to inspire a single, solitary tingle? Why, of course. Smile as though this is not the thousandth time he’s mentioned hounds and hunting? It’s all in a day’s work for the oh-so-proper sister of the Duke of Blackmore. Surely no one would suspect her secret longing for heart-racing, head-spinning passion. Except, perhaps, a dark stranger … on a terrace … at a ball where she should definitely not be kissing a man she has only just met.

The obsession that leads to ruin …
Hatred, not love, drives Lucien Wyatt, Viscount Atherbourne, to tempt the “Flower of Blackmore” into sin. Her brother has done unthinkable damage to Lucien’s family, and he intends to exact revenge in the only way left to him: Ruining his enemy’s sister, then stealing her from Blackmore by making her his own.

The woman who will set fire to her husband’s heart
As Lucien carries out his ruthless plan, tutoring his new bride in the finer points of pleasure, her surrender leaves him breathless … and soon a new obsession awakens—a scandalous fascination with his irresistible wife.

Meet the Author

Reading romance novels came easily to Elisa Braden. She’s been doing it since she was twelve. Writing them? That took a little longer. After graduating with degrees in creative writing and history, Elisa spent entirely too many years in “real” jobs writing T-shirt copy ... and other people’s resumes ... and articles about giftware displays. But that was before she woke up and started dreaming about the very unreal job of being a romance novelist. Frankly, she figures better late than never. Elisa lives in the gorgeous Pacific Northwest, where you're constitutionally required to like the colors green and gray. Good thing she does. Other items on the "like" list include cute dogs, strong coffee, and epic movies. Of course, her favorite thing of all is hearing from readers who love her characters as much as she does. Victoria Lacey has everything. Her brother is the 8th Duke of Blackmore. She's engaged to a marquess. She's beautiful, accomplished, and artistically talented. Her life, it would seem, has been mapped down to the last boring detail. She wishes that her existence, most specifically, her fiance', was more exciting. Apparently she's never heard the adage, "Be careful what you wish for." Roaring into her life comes Lucien, Viscount Atherbourne, who manages in the space of a few minutes to not only sweep her off her feet but compromise her virtue in such a way as to make not offering for her impossible. There's a complication, of course. See, Victoria's brother killed Lucien's brother in a duel some months before, and, as it turns out, Lucien has orchestrated the entire affair in order to exact revenge on Blackmore. On top of that, Victoria has been ruined at his hands. If she has any hope of living life among the Ton as anything more than a pariah, he has to step up and help repair her reputation. But there's another complication. Lucien, Viscount Atherbourne, in the process of all this, soon falls head-over-heels in love with his wife. It soon becomes obvious to Victoria that, while she has come to love Lucien, he has withheld the truth of their relationship from her and has permanently separated her from her family. Victoria sets out to discover the truth about Lucien's brother's murder and the dark secrets harbored by her husband. Anything more I could say here would be telling, and I don't intend to ruin this story for anyone. Elisa Braden has written a stunning first novel. Not only written it, but published it, herself. I read widely, selecting books based on jacket copy, reviews, and my gut. That means I've read a great number of Indie- and self-published novels. It is extremely rare, in my experience, to run across one as well written and well-turned-out as this one. The writing is tight, the characters well-drawn. The author possesses good knowledge about the period in which her story is set, and she's either a darn good editor, herself or she's had the good sense to hire a competent hand. Either way, the book goes down smooth and was, for me, impossible to put down. I have high hopes for Ms Braden. I think she's an author to watch. Her next book, #2 in this series, will be out later this year. I can hardly wait.
