Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
For all those wanna-be magicians, Bruce Smith, a professional magician has developed a set of books that reveal the real actions behind a great number of tricks and illusions. He opens with really easy tricks that require no preparation time (just hours of practice) and moves on to more complex tricks that were developed by famous magicians. The illustrations clearly show the moves and the text explains how to perform each feat. There are great tips on the pages that are intended to improve skills and performance as well as providing some interesting information about the trick and great magicians. This pocketsize book can be carried in a backpack and pulled out and studied during free moments. Don't be surprised to see kids in the library flipping coins, pulling out handkerchiefs, shuffling cards and tying knots while they hone their skills. This little gem even has a table of contents and an index. Part of "The Magic Library." 2000 (orig. 1995), Sterling, $5.95. Ages 8 up. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
