Two features of this book endure after reading it: Fletcher himself - transformed from an overweight body and flabby mind into a bronzed, lean observer and the enormity of solo walking the Grand canyon, By doing so he gains empathy for those who who have come before him. We are fortunate because we can follow him on his journey and learn as we do.
After reading this book we quit our jobs and went on the road!
Maybe too much subject? Maybe the desert heat caused him to ramble? I just found it flat. There wasn't the interaction between hiker and subject you would expect to find I wasn't expecting "Wild" but maybe more of a passion for what he was feeling in that unbelievable place. It's not a travel log, but it isn't a mystical experience either.
