Here are two oddly paired David "Fathead" Newman recordings. The first and better of the two is The Many Facets of David Newman. It features a wealth of R&B and soul-oriented material, including fine readings of Stevie Wonder's "Sylvia" and Curtis Mayfield's "We're a Winner." There are also a number of excellent, deep, slow grooving originals such as "Headstart," "Shiloh," and "Chained No More." Drummer Bernard "Pretty" Purdie and bassist Chuck Rainey are in the house for most of this session.
