With a background as a musician on the Sixties rock scene, Mike Evans began writing on popular culture in the Seventies as a broadcaster in local radio and freelance writer, his work appearing in a variety of publications including Sounds, Elle, the Guardian and Melody Maker. Since the late Eighties he has worked in book publishing, commissioning and editing over sixty titles on music, movies and fashion. As author his books have included the much-acclaimed The Art of the Beatles in 1984, the best-selling Elvis: A Celebration [2002] which he researched and wrote in collaboration with the Presley Estate in Memphis, and NYC Rock and Waking Up in New York City, both published in 2003. Still playing saxophone, in a non-professional capacity, he lives and works in London, dividing his time between writing, a freelance editorial consultancy, and his wife, children and grandchildren.
