Meet the Author

B. L. CRUMLEY is a reference historian with the U.S. Marine Corps History Division at Marine Corps Base Quantico. She was the illustration editor for USMC: A Complete History and edited A Legacy Walk Through Marine Corps History. Ms. Crumley is the author of a weekly blog on Marine Corps History.

LT. COL. JON T. HOFFMAN, USMCR, is presently serving as the deputy chief historian of the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He served a total of seventeen years on active duty as an infantry officer and historian. His tours of duty included command of two companies in an infantry battalion, three amphibious deployments in the Pacific theater, and three years as a history instructor at the Naval Academy. Hoffman’s first book, Once a Legend: “Red Mike” Edson of the Marine Raiders, received the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation’s 1994 Greene Award. His biography Chesty: The Story of Lieutenant General Lewis B. Puller, USMC, received the Greene Award for 2001.
