Meet the Author

EUGENE H. PETERSON is a writer, poet, and retired pastor. He has authored more than thirty-four books (not including The Message). He is Professor Emeritus of Spiritual Theology at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia. Eugene also founded Christ Our King Presbyterian Church in Bel Air, Maryland, where he ministered for twenty-nine years. After teaching at a seminary, he created The Message, a vibrant Bible paraphrase that connects with today's readers like no other.

It took Peterson ten years to complete. He worked not from any English text but from the original Hebrew and Greek texts to guarantee authenticity. At the same time, his ear was always tuned to the cadence and energy of the English spoken every day on the streets. He lives with his wife, Jan, in Montana.

    3rd Times a Charm!

This is the third time I've purchased a version of the Message -- I love Peterson's work, so I'll limit my comments to how great this one is.

It is light, portable, and there are great enhancements to it -- the verses are numbered, headings are bold, well organized, and the intro to each chapter is extended and informative.

    Love it.

    My new, go-to Bible.

    And, it's pretty!

    Interesting Reading

I've been waiting for The Message with verses marked. So much easier to read and compare to my other translations. Many people have said that the only accurate translation is the King James Version. However, if you read The Message and the KJV together, you find nothing has been left out. The phrasing is just in modern English. Somewhat slangy, but it's understandable to the average American. Which would you understand; 'Get Thee hence, Satan,' or 'Beat it, Satan!'

    Awesome! Rocks so hard!

There are so many different trannslastions out there, hardly any of them I can understand. This is put into words that I can comprehend. Before when I read the Bible, it was unfathomable to me, but now, I got it. I absolutely enjoy reading this version of the Message. It really is just wounderful. I highly, highly recommend this to anyone really, but for those you want to know more about the Lord, and need a little extra insite and understandable meaning, this is it, this is the one. You won't have to look any farther than this.

    a good READ

good to read and get an outline of the bible, but it is hard to study when it is inexact in translation, it sometimes conveys a different meaning than a more direct translation. the best translated book is proverbs, which gives great modern day meanings of ancient wisdom.

    WoW

This amazing 'remix' takes God's word and makes it totally readable. For someone who loves to read, they can read this version as though God himself was telling the story. For those who just need a little extra for church or a Bible study, this will bring a spring of freshness to the atmospeare.

An awesome Bible--great for youth and adults

I absolutely love this Bible! Everyone's been waiting forever to get a hold of The Message with verse numbers. So now you can read the Message (a fabulous poetic and easy-to-read translation) and find the Scripture verses easier. I like to read verses of the Message first, then read the NIV.

    great for teens

I got this for my daughter's Easter Basket. It has a great message and it's easy to read. She won't tell me if she enjoys it but I read through it & felt like it was really down to earth and easy to follow. It allows you to go as deep into the passage as you want. It makes the Bible really accessible for young ones! It gives them plenty to read for a while if they read it daily. I feel like if I put it out there hopefully she will pick it up and get something from it even if she won't let me know about it. This is a great product for that and who knows maybe one day I'll catch her reading it!:)

    Solo Remix The Message

I was on a simple bible devotional book hunt, when I locked my eyes on Solo. It is geared for younger adults, however I am young at heart and while I love my NIV bible study bible..I needed more organization in my studies, less confusion and some direction...Along with church, fellowship and my NIV bible.
The book is a great starting point and does simplify it...My suggestion is that you read it with the NIV bible or bible of your choice.. Reading the full scripture after using solo...then take time not so much for you.
But for God...I believe that whatever works for you , go for it. If it means creating a closer relationship with God, that is what he loves, and it's all he ever wants from us. Just remember not to make the study and
try not to concentrate on just YOU.. it is not really a solo experience,
Its about knowing God and what his plan is for you, and being still, listening to the words, and how he shows you in your daily life , how to
apply the lessons to daily living.
    Matthew 7:7 Ask, Seek, Knock.

    Good approach to daily devotion

a good approach to daily devotion, study, and prayer -- 4-step process that guides readers through reading, thinking critically about, and meditating on the passage, as well as steps to take or things to think about to apply the lesson to daily life

just as a matter of preference -- Solo is based on a very contemporary translation (the Message), which I found to be a bit too casual or colloquial for my taste, almost making it seem like an overly simplistic translation -- I ended up referring to my own NIV Bible for the passages, rather than reading the excerpt in the book

    Bible Study Made Easy

For those of you that do not like to read the Bible or just starting to read the Bible. This book is an excellent resource to get you started. The Message translation is so easy to read and helps one to understand the meaning of the writer. The application portion Read, Think, Pray Live; very well set up. Since starting this study God has been very present in my everyday life.

    I love it!

I've just started my Christian journey and wanted to pick up a Bible. I popped into Barnes and Noble today and couldn't stop looking at Solo, so I picked it up...and eventually purchased it. Having read several of the entries so far, I'm really excited about it. For the first time, I feel like I'll be really developing a relationship with God and already I feel one step closer.

    Life Impacting Read

I have read and studied in several translations of the Bible. NEVER have I enjoyed the read as much as the Message. My reading retention is up, my enjoyment is up, my comprehension is up! Bought it originally for my teen, now every member of my family has their own copy!

Spectacular and Fantastic Wording- This is how the bible should have been taught!

I kind of just stumble on this book while looking for a Christian journal one day and the title of this book caught my attention. I opened it and began reading and realized that this was merely the bible re-vamped to what I like to call 'the hip-hop version' of the bible. It was great and totally understandable. I love reading it. It actually tells a story to the point that you feel as though you were there 2000 years ago. Great job Mr. Peterson well done!

GODS WORD FINALLY CAN MAKE SENCE!

As a minister for nearly 20 years im so pleased to have a translation of the Bible that not only is in the modern language but actually allows for a pleasant read...here the whole Scripture comes alive on the page. It makes for Bibles reading where you dont want to put the 'Book' down.

An excellent first Bible for the Bible Virgin

I bought this bible on the recommendation of a freind as a good read for someone who's never read the bible before, and they were right. I thoroughly enjoy reading this, and the introductions to each book are nice to put things in context. In a lot of ways I like this more than a word for word translation, because to me the ideas and lessons of the bible, and being able to understand it is more important than reading a perfect translation. The main reason I gave this 4 and not 5 stars is that I plan on carrying this with me as much as I can, and the hardback cover makes that difficult, which is why I plan to give it to my mom to read, and buy a copy of the vintage leather addition. On the plus side, its very easy to read in terms of legibility of the text, even though the type face isnt't enormous, and it has no presentation page, which was a plus for me, since I bought it for myself, but might be a drawback for others.

    A helpful tool, but imperfect

This is a fine translation in some ways. The readability and enjoyment levels are high. It loses points with me because it makes some passages too definite. Many of the texts of the Bible were written to be ambiguous (fundamentalists may curse me if they wish). If you want to be told everything read this book. If you want to figure things out for yourself with as little interference as possible, I recommend the HarperCollins Study Bible.
