Volume 1 covers the period 1946 through 1960, while Volume 2 covers 1961 through 1982. Volume 3 lists additional recordings in various fields—popular artists, film soundtracks, foreign recordings, classical material—and provides a complete listing by recording media (singles, albums, compact discs) as well as indexes for composers, special subjects, and artists. Listings are in numerical master number order, with each track being assigned a number. Each volume has a separate ISBN (v.1: 30778-4; v.2: 30779-2; v.3: 30780-6) and is devoted to a master number series or to a given era. Issue numbers cover all known releases on various formats. All singles and album sections include comprehensive lists of European and Japanese issues. Each volume has an artist index, and v.3 concludes with composer, subject, and general artist indexes. MICHEL RUPPLI is a world-recognized discographer who has published numerous label discographies in the Greenwood Press Discography series and who, in 1995, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Recorded Sound Collectors.

ED NOVITSKY is a music historian and recording archivist who has been actively compiling artist and record label discographies for more than twenty years and who serves as a consultant and advisor to record companies and various music related publications.
