Join Slim Goodbody and his Body Buddies for a system-by-system exploration of the amazing human body.
Children's Literature - RevaBeth RussellThis is another in the "Body Buddies" series with characters such as Huff and Puff (the respiratory system), Ticker (circulatory system), and others who teach you about how your body works. Strut, the bone persona, informs us that babies have more bones than parents and that bones are alive with special cells and tissues. More than half of your bones are in your arms, legs, feet, and hands. Woven through the story are other body systems, such as the digestive persona, where we learn how the digestive system relates to the muscular and skeletal systems. We need calcium for strong bones and the digestive system supplies it. Ticker, the circulatory character add his comments that his system carries nutrients, such as calcium, through the blood. There are some simple experiments such as feeling your bones in your face and checking things out for yourself. These offer great science beginnings for a young child. Amazing photos and illustrations enhance the text. Each book has a two-page spread featuring the hero of the book. There are amazing facts at the end of the book, which make for great family dinner conversation starters. It is a delightful, informative book all of the way through. Reviewer: RevaBeth Russell
