Overview

A love story for Christmas—now a Hallmark Channel original movie—from the #1 bestselling author of The Christmas Box and The Walk.

Elise Dutton dreads the arrival of another holiday season. Three years earlier, her husband cheated on her with her best friend, resulting in a bitter divorce that left her alone, broken, and distrustful.

Then, one November day, a stranger approaches Elise in the mall food court. Though she recognizes the man from her building, Elise has never formally met him. Tired of spending the holidays alone, the man offers her a proposition. For the next eight weeks—until the evening of December 24—he suggests that they pretend to be a couple. He draws up a contract with four rules:

1. No deep, probing personal questions
2. No drama
3. No telling anyone the truth about the relationship
4. The contract is void on Christmas Day

The lonely Elise surprises herself by agreeing to the idea. As the charade progresses, the safety of her fake relationship begins to mend her badly broken heart. But just as she begins to find joy again, her long-held secret threatens to unravel the emerging relationship. But she might not be the only one with secrets.

This was a terrific read. I forced myself not listen to it in one sitting, so as to make it last a little longer and to savor it. The audio book is very well read, with slightly different voices used for different characters. the intro of the book, which raised the issue of: If there is one day in your life that you could erase/do over, what day would it be? is a tantalizing question and thought provoking.

This book was truly amazing and so powerful! This book was all about wanting to change the past and trying to move on from the mistakes that you have made but its also about forgiveness. This book had me happy and in tears all at the same time. This is a  Christmas story but I love that it wasn't so over taken by the holiday but the holiday brought the characters together in a away that Elise  never saw coming.  "I'm afraid of.. not flying. As long as you're in he air there's no problem, right? Its coming back to earth that's the problem."  "There is not only more to each soul's journey than we imagine, usually there is more then we can imagine."  " It should not surprise us that, at the end of a journey, our destination looks different than we imagined at the beginning. Everything looks different up close."

There is nothing better to get in the spirit of the holidays like reading a Richard Paul Evans novel.   His latest offering “The Mistletoe Promise” is a delicious treat for the heart.    Elise Dutton and Nicholas Derr are two souls with heartwrenching moments in their past who find themselves alone and lonely with the holiday season approaching.   Nick, a successful lawyer proposes that they enter a mutually beneficial contract that would allow them to act as a couple for all the upcoming social events on their calendars.  Elise is intrigued with the idea.  They agree to a “Purely platonic relationship” and each find themselves falling harder for one another as time goes on.   A final revelation serves to bring them even closer together and ultimately shows that there is hope and light in letting go of regret and guilt. This is one of the best romances I have read in a long time.  Not one emotion is left untouched.  Richard Paul Evans is masterful at tugging a reader’s heart and keeping them hoping the story never ends.  It is perfect literary comfort food.   This book should be on every Santa list and is a terrific read to give and share with anyone.

The Mistletoe Promise is a standalone novel set during Christmas-time and is part of Richard Paul Evans's Mistletoe Collection. What started out as a simplistic, holiday-themed "let's do a pretend relationship" story quickly evolved into something much deeper. The plot change was completely unexpected and the overall message of the book was full of palpable emotions. One-dimensional characters were beautifully developed and their personal struggles brought tears to my eyes. I found The Mistletoe Promise to be a great Christmas book and I'm so glad I read it. My favorite quote: "It's been said that the Magi, wise men, gazed up into the night skies, following a star. But they were not looking for a star. They were looking for hope. Hope of a new world. Hope of redemption. Light is not found in dark places, and hope is not found looking down or looking back. May you always look up."

Learning to forgive yourself is much harder than forgiving others. Rich or poor guilt doesnt descriminate. Elise and Nick are both facing demons and nightmares from the past. Can a christmas contract change all that for the future...or a misletoe promise.A sweet romance. Highly recommend.

Have been away from Mr Evans books for a while. Heard about this romance series from my sister and read first two books in a couple of days. Now anxiously awaiting third book! I am back for more wonderful stories. Thank you RPE for your books , starting with Christmas Box!

It's June, and I just finished listening to this audiobook! It was five hours long, and I couldn't stop until the end. It may be a Christmas story, but redemption and forgiveness are never out of season. You will definitely not regret time spent reading this book.

This was a fascinating book and very well written. The story line was so splendid that I had a hard time putting the book down until I finished it. The book was recommended by a relative, and I've not read any books by this author before, but will look for such in the future.
