Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Cynthia Levinson
Thanks to King Crispin Swanrider, a squirrel, the animals of Mistmantle have been at peace since the end of the Raven War. However, this fifth book of the "Mistmantle Chronicles" finds the island threatened by tidal waves. Unable to leave the island due to surrounding mists, they must move to higher ground. Mossberry, also a squirrel, believes he is chosen by The Heart to lead and takes advantage of the disruptions to increase his power. Crispin aims to keep everyone calm but many animals not part of The Circle follow Mossberry. Many go to their doom, as he burns the island. In the confusion, Urchin, a golden squirrel, loses track of his beloved Sepia and asks Corr, a Voyager who can row beyond the mists and return to the island more than three times, to find her. He succeeds in finding Sepia, but doesn't know if she can survive both returning to the island and the poison that is killing her. This political and environmental allegory has vivid settings, suspenseful storylines, and complex, believable characters. Readers can understand this book as a stand-alone read, but will want to read the previous books to get to know the appealing characters and their adventures better. The romance is tender and the moral, important; both are age-appropriate. Reviewer: Cynthia Levinson

    TOOK MY BREATH AWAY!

It was so well thought out. At first i cried, but then i was content with how it all turned out. Not completely sure if this is the last book in the series. It should be.
