I purchased The Mommy MD Guide to Your Baby's First Year as a gi

I purchased The Mommy MD Guide to Your Baby's First Year as a gift for all the new moms in my life. It makes a great baby shower present! I like how this book is filled with tips from doctors who are ALSO mothers. I also appreciate that it stays focused on the positive. So many pregnancy and parenting books dwell on scary, unlikely events, rather than focusing on the positive ones. Being a new mom and experiencing taking care of a baby should be exciting and joy filled....keeping stress and fear at bay only heightens a mom's parenting experience. Thank you for creating this book.

Best first year advice in print

This book is incredibly valuable to anyone who has a new baby. It is often said that babies don’t come with manuals. There are a million theories floating around and everyone has their own take on how to raise a child. What I love about this book is it breaks down the first year of a child’s life by the quarter then the month. Each chapter is a month in a child’s life and highlights the various things you will be experiencing and should be looking for to develop in your children.

Once again, the information is presented in a fun, informative and easy to read format. It is easy to quickly look up an issue you need advice on or read straight through in the endless hours of sleeplessness during the first year of a baby’s life. They continue to offer anecdotal stories from 70 Mommy MDs with practical advice and understanding for the new parents. Both mothers and fathers will get so much from reading this informative text and feel more confident in handling the many stressful events during the first year.

This book offers tips on everything from breastfeeding to taking a baby swimming. There is practical and accessible advice throughout. The book’s tone is calming and reassuring without the fear inducing information you might encounter elsewhere. The authors filled this book with useful information about common complaints and celebrations of a baby’s first year that most moms will face, not focusing on unusual symptoms and problems that only a few moms will encounter.

It's A Complete Helpful Guide to Baby's First Year!

Mommy MD Guide is a fabulous compilation of insight, sage suggestions, helpful hints, and mothering experiences from 70 doctors who are also mothers. It’s a celebration of successful, healthy, loving motherhood. From baby’s first month through the end of his/her first year, the book provides thoughtful true-life advice to new mothers––giving them a rich reference tool to guide them as they care for their own little ones. Some of the doctors have grown-up daughters with infants of their own. In all, the Mommy MDs have had 160 babies.

For convenient lookup, the book divides baby’s life into the first four quarters of life, covering the most commonly occurring concerns for each month. In the first month, it deals with everyday issues like coping with crying, treating jaundice, and getting shots . . . to the twelfth month where the reader is given practical guidance on how to handle tantrums, introducing finger foods, and getting necessary shots. The recommendations are always practical, yet the doctors often have diverse opinions, illustrating the fact that motherhood doesn’t come in pre-packaged responses, as every child and every situation is unique. As an example, the good doctors have different opinions about such things as using cloth or disposable diapers, or having baby sleep with you or in the next room, or breastfeeding versus bottle-feeding.

Above all, the book leans toward common-sense and practicality in virtually all of its suggestions, calming nervous new mothers’ fears and letting them know that whatever they’re experiencing with their baby has likely been experienced by one or more of the Mommy Doctors. “Despite running noses and coughs, we never really gave our kids any cold medicine. If they weren’t complaining, we just let them go. Babies are much more resilient than most people give them credit for.” (Quote from Susan Besser, one of the 70 MDs.)

This is a wonderful book that even Dr. Spock’s generation would have approved of!
