Meet the Author

Upton Beall Sinclair, Jr. (1878-1968) was an American writer and playwright, best known for his muckraking epic, THE JUNGLE. Born in Baltimore to an alcoholic father, Sinclair spent much of his youth with his wealthy grandparents, developing an understanding for both the rich and poor classes. A dedicated socialist, Sinclair ran for Congress twice on the Socialist ticket and for Governor of California as a Democrat, but was never elected. Sinclair wrote more than one hundred works during his long career and died aged 90 in a New Jersey nursing home.
