"Thus distances ... were often vast, and the Mongol peoples faced almost insurmountable obstacles in attempting to achieve unity. Despite these impediments, Mongolia had almost 250 cloudless days a year, more than almost any territory so far to the north, and earned it the sobriquet of Land of the Blue Sky."
Quite an achievement, but where was the editor?
Note that this is Mongol history up to and into the 14th Century. Despite having a chapter on the Mongols' legacy, the book makes only a single, geographical reference to modern Mongolia, Imner Mongolia, Buryatia, and Tuva, and none to Kalmykia.
