A true wordsmith, Maria Illich does a superb job in bringing a novel new world to life with rich imagery, and poignant, emotional moments interspersed with a wonderfully witty humor. Literary, mythical, cultural, and spiritual references abound in the various themes and symbols employed which reminds the reader of the works of Joseph Campbell and the archetypes of Carl Jung.
The Morcant Twins and the Curse of the Griseum happily plots its own unique course though a genre shared by CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, JK Rowling, David Eddings, Tony DiTerlizzi, and many others, and not only holds its own, but makes a fresh and compelling contribution that is a must read for the ages 8 to 88.
