Hardcover Used A talented photographer without equal, David Drebin is above all a storyteller. His brooding and glamorous works tell tales of lust and voyeurism--as well as ... seduction and escape. Not afraid to be daring, Drebin also tantalizes us with subtle allusions. His sweeping cinematic images feature the majestic backdrops of such world cities as Berlin, Paris and Rio de Janeiro. These photographs pulse with a charged sensuality, using color and light to maximum effect. Dangerous seductresses play a central role in Drebin's work. Bursts of saturated Technicolor explode against stone and gray cement. In this, he hints at Hitchcock at his finest. We're left with a tinge of regret amid the sensual excess. Read more Show Less

    Massive Cityscapes and Residual Memories

David Drebin is a master photographer. Had he elected to make this book simply cityscapes of Los Angeles, Hong Kong, New York, Rio De Janiero, Paris, Berlin and Barcelona and the at times associated seascapes or beaches or moody sky images this book would still be worth purchasing for his mastery of light and mood he is able to capture at night and at the opening and closing of night. But he goes beyond that, sensitively picking up on the moods of these images and superimposing models who represent the time alone after encounters that have obviously been not completely satisfying. In multiple languages Michele Marie Roy, Chief Curator of Photography, Fotografiska, Stockholm introduces this book with a Forward that sets the mood - 'The Morning After is a collection of images that reside on the border between art and fashion photography. Drebin, form exposure to print, enthralls us with the style and wit of his visual stories. We live vicariously through his characters, and relish in the fantasy evoked by his images.' The artist/author offers his explanation of the psychology of his venture into the imagery of night and women before the huge images of his large book unfold: 'Are photographs merely thoughts and words translated into visuals? What is to be said of imagination? We all have dreams of what we would like to become and where we would like to b. How often does our anticipation match the reality of an experience and then it's reflection?' What follows is a cinematic sharing of places of utter beauty of craft of the color photographer mixed with elements of story lines that must be picked up form a single image by the reader and played out with the imagination of the setting the artist offers. It is a grand journey, one filled with beauty and with an interplay of loss and gain. It depends on where the viewer has been or chooses to go. And that is the work of a fine artist. The book and its quality of production is in keeping with the fine reputation of teNeues Publishing Group. Grady Harp
