Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
This is one of the most entertaining of Crowther's "Most Amazing" titles. At first look, all of the pages are white with black lower-case letters of the alphabet. Each of the letters has a small arrow either on the letter itself or nearby. The arrows point up or down, left or right, sometimes indicating the entire letter should be pulled up or down or even turned completely over. The reader never knows what to expect. When, for instance, the entire letter a is raised an ape comes swinging down, but when a pull-tab underneath b is pulled down, only a small brown bear's head peeks in from the left side of that letter. When the top half of the letter e is pulled over, an elephant is revealed and his long trunk reaches over to touch the d to its left. When the letter q is turned over a quail takes flight. Everyone will have his or her own favorite, but mine is the tiny mouse that streaks across the baseline of the letter m when that tab is pulled. This seemingly simple book displays an assortment of 26 neat little paper-engineering tricks. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich

Can't wait for the new edition!

My grandmother gave me this book in 1980 when I was just a little girl. I've kept it all these years and I'm now sharing it with my two year old son. As you can imagine, it has seen better days and since my son isn't old enough to appreciate the book yet, he's taken to ripping some of the "pull down levers" or the hidden animals. This is, by far, one of the most creative books out there! I can't wait to buy a new book and continue sharing it with my family!
