Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Mouse enjoyed the banana given to him by the monkeys in the tree. He blithely tossed the peel over his shoulder. Elephant, Rhino, Lion and Giraffe all slipped on the peel. Mouse ignored their plea to pick up after himself and he received his comeuppance. The oversized pop-ups of the topsy-turvy jungle animals are a delightfully funny new twist. Young listeners will join in the "Stamp! Stamp! Stamp!" of the Elephant, the "Trot! Trot! Trot!" of the Rhino, the "Bound! Bound! Bound!" of the Lion, the "Gallop! Gallop! Gallop!" of the Giraffe, and the "Scamper! Scamper! Scamper!" of the Mouse. The action-filled, cartoon-style illustrations are just perfect for this old Vaudeville joke. This will be a big hit for a lap reading or in story hour, but the pop-ups and the foldout pages are too fragile for library circulation. 2001, Orchard Books/Scholastic, $10.95. Ages 2 to 5.
