The band generally veers toward the wide end of the punk spectrum, but the sounds here also venture into a variety of subgenres. "So Smooth" and "Fucking Charming" are second cousins in the power pop family. "Easter Present" toys with an intricate, energetic post-punk reminiscent of Washington,...

"So Smooth" and "Fucking Charming" are second cousins in the power pop family. "Easter Present" toys with an intricate, energetic post-punk reminiscent of Washington, D.C.'s Autoclave. The band's lyrics delve deep into longing and loss, as on the furious "Now Subtract," on which Cooper sings, "You could have saved your honor/you could have saved your pride/if you would have buried me/when I was a baby." The Moves is a strong first outing that sets up a healthy challenge for the band's next effort.
