The Movie Murders

A man walks into a DVD store owned by two Greek brothers and picks out a film about a nanny. Then the body of Agnieszka, a Polish nanny is found by a child in Joggers Park. Are these two events related? “Does he have something against emigrants?” Asks detective Ken Stone. Rose Bird, his partner, a First Nations Canadian drives Ken crazy when insisting on telling him the meanings of each victim’s name. There is no love interest between Ken and Rose who are more like father and daughter. But is there possible love connection with the other characters? Maybe Rose's talented New Zealand friend Justine, the crime scene photographer or Dick, whose exotic mix of Mexican and Scottish blood makes him hard to resist. How long can Rose manage to ignore his obvious crush on her? For the film buffs there is a game nature to the book with the challenge of spotting the over 600 movie titles in the names of the characters, restaurants, streets and other things throughout the book.

About the Author

During my time in Greece I've finished three books. I wrote a screenplay before I began the novel of The Movie Murders which was born during a conversation with the real Kostas who owned my neighborhood DVD rental store. I have lived in the large multinational cities of Los Angeles, Toronto (born there) and Vancouver this has colored my opinion of immigrants and their struggles to fit in and now as a Canadian expatriate living in Europe since 2002 I too feel the alienation.
