When historian Willie Clarke dies of mysteriously of dehydration in the California deserts, ex-football hero Jim Knighthorse is hired to dig a little deeper-and discovers a shocking connection to one of the West's oldest mysteries.

Over a hundred years ago, an unnamed cowboy was murdered in the California desert and, due to freak weather conditions, would become mummified within twenty-four hours. Now known to the world as Sylvester the Mummy and displayed in a creepy curiosity shop, Sylvester and historian Willie Clarke will be forever linked in mystery. That is, unless private investigator Jim Knighthorse can survive long enough to untangle one of the West's greatest unsolved murders.

I have read the first two and they are great, however, need to stay consistent. First book speaks of his mothers murder and says there was no sign of sexual trauma, but the second book says she was raped. Please make up my mind

Jim Knighthorse is a private investigator who has taken on a 100 year old cold case. The case of Willie Clarke, a man who had died mysteriously in the California desert. Once again Knighthorse gets himself into some very interesting situations during his investigation. He is also still looking for who murdered his mother over 20 years ago. Knighthorse has a girlfriend for whom he is trying to stop drinking for. He really likes her. There time together is sweet. He also speaks to Jack, or who Knighthorse starts to think is really God. Their conversations are fascinating. I love the Jim Knighthorse books. They are so full of laugh out loud humor. The book moves along so quickly that you find that you have just sat still for hours and wasn’t even aware that the time had passed. The mystery of who killed Willie Clarke is very interesting. You will enjoy your time with Jim Knighthorse.

This was an imaginative, exciting, can't put down book. I was wishing it wouldn't end. Can't wait for next book in series. J.R. Rain has a real talent for writing.

...And Jim Knighthorse is a male Kinsey Milhone, but conceited, and with a definite alcohol problem. Yet he is just human enough to be likeable, and usually doesn't take himself too seriously. I would love to see Rain flesh out the stories a bit more: things seem a bit rushed at times. And make us see what it is in Knighthorse that his smart, educated, beautiful girlfriend sees, because the two seem on the surface to be quite mismatched. She could no doubt do better!

I really love Jim Knighthorse. He is so arrogant and funny. He knows he is cocky and that is what makes me laugh more. He isnt afraid to make fun of himself and he knows hes not perfect no matter how much he pretends he is. I like his interaction with other characters and I really enjoy the relationship he has with his girlfriend. I cant wait for the next one in this series!
