This book is so inspiring. This is such an incredible story. I laughed, I cried, I was horrified, I was sad, I was terrified- it is a very emotional experience to read this wonderful book. It is an amazing glimpse into the mind of someone with Schizoaffective disorder who is also so talented and very courageous and intelligent. This story really enabled me to see mental illness in a whole new light. Alot of people think that others with schizophrenia are just strange people on the street or psychotic killers. That is not true at all! This book, and many others like it prove that you can live a successful and fulfilling life even with a mental illness. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a wonderful, heart warming and really amazing story of triumph over the darkness of mental illness. Watch out for those spiders-that is a really scary part!

The Music of Madness is a book about a talented concert flutist and her harrowing journey from sanity into madness and back again. This true story is an odyssey that takes you through the dark cells of mental institutions to the lighted stages of concert halls. One is able to travel with the author as she journeys from her innocent childhood to the dark world of hallucinations, her face-off with death and her emergence into the light of hope and final triumph as she reclaims her career and more importantly her sanity and her right to live life as it was meant to be. The Music of Madness is an inspirational book for all those who have felt the anguish and hopelessness of mental illness either for themselves or for a loved one. This painfully honest story is a source of renewed faith in life and provides everyone who reads it with a stronger belief in the strength of the human spirit. This book brings to everyone's library an exciting adventure full of truth, and the qualities that all of us share in surviving this chancy yet exciting existence we call life.

When I read this book, I was relieved to know that I was not the only person dealing with some of these problems. My sister and brother are both deaf and have some other mental problems. This book gave me hope for them. I am also a student of Tracy's and I know how she has worked to get to where she is. She is a beacon of hope for all people living with any sort of problem. We love you Tracy!

I just saw 'A Beautiful Mind' at my local theatre after reading the book. The unique perspectives given me by the film increase my understanding more than ever about what a compelling and vast thing our mind is. After reading 'The Music of Madness', I wanted to delve more into the story and to learn more about its characters. If we are lucky, someone will make a movie about Tracy Harris' inspiring journeys into the worlds of the damned and of the living. Another beautiful mind and talent described with well written and sometimes even lyrical prose.

This is a candid struggle of one woman¿s anguished mental affliction and resolution experienced through the lens of her earlier gift of music. Patients, families and professional alike can readily feel her inner struggle with distorted perceptions of the world around her, and share in the reconstruction of her identity as an individual.
