With this being the first offering from this author I was a little skeptical about purchasing the Mustache Ride.  After reading the Mustache Ride I found that taking a chance on a new author does pay off sometimes.  There is one central character that you follow from adolescence through manhood, and while the story is often tragic and shocking, myself as a avid reader was able to connect and identify with the story which is why I read books. BRAVO

Wow! I wasn't sure about buying a book from a self-published author, especially a debut novel. But The Mustache Ride turned out to be a really fantastic story about a guy that travels the low road to love. Vivid writing put me right in the scenes with Tommy Sullivan, the main character.
There were definitely some disturbing images along his journey but without pain we can't experience joy. I think that's where this book really differs from other coming of age tales or love stories. It's not some sugar coated tale about a fantasy romance. It feels real. I could hear the music blasting at the parties, imagine the action clearly, and visualize the sex scenes in all of their awkwardness and passion.
The story is set in the Downriver area of south east Michigan during the mid-eighties and follows the main character as he discovers sex and stumbles through a series of crazy relationships until he finds his soul mate. No spoiler alert here, you won't see the ending coming and if you have a heart at all you will be moved.
I had to read it again about a week after I finished. This is one of those books you read more than once because there is so much action and detail that you discover news things the second time through.
I don't have a huge library of books I've read and don't keep many but I'm keeping this one for sure.

This book was an amazing read, I laughed, I cried, I got mad and I sympathized with this main character. Although sexually charged in some parts, there is also compassion and intimacy that leaves you with a good feeling. This book brings a strong sense of ones self -worth and allows you to relate to a time of male pre pubescence through maturity. IF YOU GREW UP IN THE 80's YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!! I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants a great story that they cant put down!
