A 15-year-old sleuth tries to solve the murder of her great-uncle, who was killed after writing a tell-all novel about his high-profile friends. An Edgar Award winner. Ages 12-up. (Dec.)q
Janice Del Negro
A would-be writer, teenage Samantha is attending a house party at the island mansion of her uncle, Augustus Trevor. A famous author, Trevor has written a book revealing some deep, dark secret from the past of each of his now famous houseguests. The guest who finds the hidden manuscript--using clues provided by Trevor--will have his or her "secret" removed. Everyone, except Samantha, has something to hide, even Sam's Aunt Thea, Trevor's wife. But Trevor can't control his own game, and someone bludgeons him to death in an effort to find the damning manuscript. Trapped on the island by a storm and without phone contact to the mainland, Samantha and the others grudgingly work together to find the manuscript and uncover the killer. The derivative plot is helped along by the quick pacing and melodramatic setting, and the stock players (the movie star, the senator, the fashion designer) perform their roles as expected. While the ending is startlingly abrupt and somewhat anticlimactic, the mystery will still be popular with genre fans.

If you enjoy mystery, and suspense you would love the book called The Name of the Game was Murder by Joan Lowery Nixon. It is about a young lady named Samantha Burns who was sent to her Aunt Thea and her husband Augustus¿ (a famous writer) house, and realized she and the other guests have been forced to play an evil game. They were about to roll into a serious game that they wish they never had. I think this book was a very suspenseful and interesting novel to read. If you love to be scared and wondering were you should step or not then maybe you would like to be a player of The Name of The Game was Murder.

This is a very good book. samantha goes to visit her Aunt Thea and hopes to have Augustus Trevor (her uncle who is a famous novelist) review some stories she has written. Samantha discovered that her uncle is very bad tempered and mean. he has blackmailed some of his famous "friends" into coming over to play a "game". He gives everyone clues except Sam because he didn't know she was coming. He rudely tells her to stay out of the way. The game is that Augustus has discovered a secret about everyone who came including Aunt Thea. The person who decifered the clues and won the game would have their secret taken out of the manuscript before it was published. but things didn't go as planned. when Augustus is found dead, Samantha must join the game and find the manuscript which she thought would contain clues about the identity of the murderer.

The plot of this book was magnificent. Although, it was a little cliched in the way that people are trapped in a house with a dead body. It reminds me of the 'Clue' movie. But, overall, it was a good book.

I really like this book. I cound not stop reading it! For the the time in a long time I found a book that was really interesting. Right now I read about 60 pages in the last two hours and still going. Which I could never quite come even close to 60 pages in 2 hours so this book was very great.

This book is sort of like the Westing Game, which I also recommmend. The Name of the Game was Murder was a very suspenseful book with different and interesting characters. If you aren't the world's best mystery solver don't worry! Joan Lowery Nixon in succeeded in writing another great mystery!

Out of all the books i have read of Joan Lowery's this one,in my perspective, was the most breath taking. The story's plot was so well put together. the story fit together like the missing pieces of a puzzle. This, by far, was my favorite book of hers.

This book gets you into the story from the first sentence, to the very last words. She makes it so you can't lie your book down, and can't stop reading until you find out what happens next, otherwise, thats all you can think about each day! She makes you think one thing, but guides you to another, and pretty soon, you are practically Curious George! This is a great book, and any suspense-mystery-murder book lover would love this book!

This book is the best I've read from Nixon!!!! It has so much thrill! This book is defentally one to keep you on your toes!! When Samatha goes to her Aunt's and Uncle's house for a vist she expects a nice time. Visting in the first place was to meet her uncle, a famous author. Well, as it turns out her uncle is a grouch who would rather not have Sam there. As the story goes on Sam finds out her Uncle is having a get together, but it's not the kind you think. He therens his guests to come. when they get there you find out that the uncle holds a deep secreet of each guest that could ruin each of them. he gives them each clues to what he knows and how to find what he's hidden so that their secret will be kept safe. The next the Uncle is found dead, murdered. The race is on and everyone is a suspect in the game of murder!! The is on book I would deffientally recomend.

I highly recomond any of Joan Lowery's books the first one i ever read was island of dangerous dreams. that was the first time i ever had a favorite author (besides Dr seuss) i liked this one too but Island of Dangerous Dreams is better. It's the only kind of books that i like . and i am not a big reader so you know it's gotta be good if i read it.
