"Many people believe the only way to get in shape is by putting a lot of money into trendy fitness centers, or spending hard-earned cash on a variety of workout videotapes. In the end, these methods seldom provide the results we're all looking for. But don't get me wrong--I am not demeaning gyms or workout tapes; in fact, I still enjoy the benefits of a gym to keep fit. Weight-lifting rooms and other facilities can be extremely beneficial. However, to obtain and maintain supreme cardiovascular fitness and a rock-hard body, I must continually use the training regimen I learned as a member of the Navy SEALs." -- from The Navy SEAL Workout As the world's most elite combat unit, the Navy SEALs have long been known for their tremendous physical fitness and mental stamina. Their training program has also carried somewhat of a mystique, as so few people actually enter and stay in the program. Now Navy SEAL Mark De Lisle reveals the no-frills workout that has conditioned some of the best bodies around. From stretching through cooldown, including a variety of running and swimming workouts as well as tips on top-notch nutrition, The Navy SEAL Workout can improve any committed participant's cardiovascular fitness and overall shape and tone. "After 27 years as a Navy SEAL, I feel The Navy SEAL Workout program is the best one on the market, encompassing the physical training regimen required of a Naval Special Warfare Warrior. The levels of intensity, from beginner to advanced, are so well laid out that both the biggest 'couch potato' and professional athelete can see improvement after a short period of time." -- Allan Starr, Command Masterchief, Naval Special Warfare Command Group One "In The Navy SEAL Workout, Mark De Lisle has developed a program soundly based in a state-of-the-art knowledge of exercise physiology and principles. This book would be a valuable addition to the library of anyone who is interested in peak performance." -- W.K. Prusaczyk, PhD, Exercise Physiologist, Navy Health and Research Center "It has been interesting to note the numerous SEAL-related materials that have come out in recent years. As a former Marine, I salute you for your fine work with the SEALs and in promoting fitness to the masses." -- Harvey Newton, Director of Program Development National Strength and Conditioning Association Mark De Lisle became a U.S. Navy SEAL at age 27. He lives in San Diego, California.

The NAVY SEAL WORKOUT has changed my life for the better. I highly reccomend it. I was 57 years old when I started, and the workout starts off with low numbers of reps and works up in increments. Older folks like me CAN do this!! It is great. When you are done, you feel like you just had a great massage and sauna. I used to have a big belly and slumping shoulders. Now I have a flat stomach, my shoulders are held back naturally, and I have a "V" shaped back because of well developed deltoids. My advice from my self to my self is: "Keep your mouth shut and do what it says in the book" just as though there was a Seal Instructor standing over you leading you through the workout. The book provides the knowledge and the guidance, YOU have to provide the EFFORT and the DEDICATION! Remember...regardless what shape you are in God loves you something fierce. But why not honor and thank God by keeping the body he loaned you to use during your time on earth, in Great Shape??? Oh Well, I'll shut up now.

I bought the book in 1998, completed the programs several times. All you get is GREAT RESULTS. It is written in a simple, concise, no-nonsense approach. The equipment to be used is a Pullup bar (can be replaced), so it is minimum. Beginners should start slowly, and the progression considers safety. So you will stay injury-free. There are similar books around, but Mark's book, is the one you shouldn't miss.

This is a straight forward purchase. I enjoyed the detail that was provided around overall conditioning. The exercise options were clear, and illustrations were informative.

This workout book was the best thing that I have found. I don't necessarily hate weight training and trendy fitness programs, but I think they are greatly unecessary. That is the reason I enjoyed this book so much. If you're willing to dedicate some time and sore muscles this book will get you as hard as a Navy SEAL. The book explains how to start and why things like supplements and other costly measures are not necessary in becoming fit and gaining muscle. No nonsense.

Unlike most fitness books out there, this book gets down to the basics. This book is full of excercises and programs that are desinged to make you work harder than you've ever worked. No fancy machines, whacky systems, or junk. All you need is your own body weight and desire. Mark does a great job of breaking down the SEAL workout to it's basic form. If you want results and are willing to work this is the book for you. And for those who are trying to become a SEAL, this is the best prep book you are going to find.

This book is one of the best workout books on the market today. It's very simple, but the results are excellent. This book will help anyone get in shape.

I found the exercise regimen far too advanced for a beginner. There are way too many excercises for one session: 28 total. Even the beginners upper body workout is too much. Pull-ups, for example, are just plain tough and asking you to perform 5 different variations one after the other is over-kill. I don't doubt the authors sincerity but this program should be for those who are already in reasonably good shape and have a lot of time to work-out.
